The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence, to work independently and or take responsibility for the work of others in providing a range of services in a social and vocational rehabilitation context and or to progress to higher education and training.

Social care workers provide professional individual or group care to clients with personal and social needs, in a caring, compassionate, non-judgmental way. Client groups include children and adolescents in residential care; young people in detention schools; people with intellectual or physical disabilities; people who are homeless; people with alcohol/drug dependency; families in the community, older people, and asylum-seekers/refugees.

This course will familiarise you with the latest concepts and theoretical developments in the relevant academic disciplines, and help you to develop as a self-aware, reflective, altruistic, empathic social care professional.

This course prepares students to have a rewarding career in social care, a profession characterised by working in partnership with people who experience marginalisation, or disadvantage, or who have special needs.

Social care practitioners work in a wide variety of settings with a wide variety of people: children and adolescents in residential care, people with learning or physical disabilities, the homeless, people with alcohol/ drug dependency, families in the community, older people or recent immigrants to Ireland. This programme is delivered through a blend of lectures, workshops and two full semesters of off-site, supervised practice placementSocial studies examines  the past and current behaviour of individuals and societies. This programme is delivered through a blend of lectures, workshops and two full semesters of off-site, supervised practice placement.

This course is designed for people who want to attain the standards of proficiency for social care workers as defined by CORU. The learner will engage with 18 modules that explore social care practice and how it applies in various social care settings. Students will complete over 800 hours of supervised practice placement, in a social care setting.

This one-year course aims to deepen students knowledge of a wide range of social care areas from Mental Health Awareness to Disability Awareness. It will stimulate and challenge students to evaluate current trends in the sector. The course is a comprehensive and challenging course comprising both academic and practical modules.

This course will suit those who have a good knowledge of Social Care and are seeking to progress in their professional development. Students will get an understanding of the many roles of a Social Care Professional and models of social care provision.

This course introduces learners to Social Studies and Social Care work. The course provides an academic foundation along with the practical experience necessary for working in the area of Social Care. It is also ideal for those who wish to continue their studies by progressing to Level 6 or higher at Third Level.

Two years, part-time for the full award. Students will receive a QQI component certificate at the end of the first year.

Studying on the Certificate in Social Citizenship at University College Cork offers students a stimulating environment to develop the skills they need to play an active role in shaping their own futures. The course provides the opportunity for students to develop their personal educational interests and to interact with a wide range of students from different courses within UCC. Students will have access to a range of learning supports such as adaptive technologies, will have the opportunity to sit in on lectures in a subject area of their choice, and will have a work placement. Most importantly they will enjoy a third-level education experience with the many other people who make up the student body of UCC.

This course in Social Entrepreneurialism gives learners the opportunity to identify socio-cultural, political and economic contexts and challenges, to explore their creativity and developing business acumen to design and implement solutions through practical project work and educational experiences.
