Sports Science and Health is the scientific study of physiology and exercise science in relation to the ability of the human body to adapt to motion, movement, physical activity and health changes. This course covers a broad range of disciplines, focusing on the medical aspects of physical activity, and the general concepts of physiology, medical science, nutrition, health, and related training.

You’ll gain a thorough understanding of the identification, treatment and prevention of injuries that happen during everyday life, illness, physical activity, athletic training, and sporting events.

This degree combines areas such as performance testing, nutrition, physiology, strength and conditioning and biomechanics. Over the course of four years, students will learn the underpinnings and applied disciplines of sports science, positioning graduates as a sports scientist who can pursue further study or work in practice with individual athletes, sports teams and general community and clinical groups to enhance participation, performance and health in sport.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to maintain and repair a range of sports surfaces. This BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy, gives you the opportunity to qualify and work as a professional sports therapist with the option to progress to a master’s in Physiotherapy and become a qualified physiotherapist.

This course aims to provide learners with the skill necessary to work in the sports and recreation/sports therapy industries. Sports therapists provide a valuable service to the sports industry, specialising in the prevention and management of soft tissue injuries through manual massage techniques and electrical treatments. This course will also provide learners with the theoretical and practical knowledge to work in the fitness industry or to study at a higher level.

Stu­dents will study a range of sub­jects, with a particular emphasis being placed on anatomy, physio assistant theory and sports massage. Throughout the Sports Therapy and Physiotherapy Assistant (Year 1) course, students will be required to work alongside a variety of sporting organisations as part of their course work

This module will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to manage all of the factors that influence the development, quality & maintenance of sports turf in Ireland.

This programme is orientated towards the requirements of the growing sports and leisure industry with particular emphasis on coaching and fitness. Learners on this programme also have the opportunity to coach in local primary schools.

The aim of this progarmme is to equip students with a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to progress to further training in several areas including the Health Sciences, Rehabilitation, Health Nutrition and Sports and Exercise Science in a range of higher certificate and degree programmes.

 This one-year, QQI Level 5 course equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge for those who enjoy sport, health and fitness, and would envisage themselves gaining employment in the area. Learners who successfully complete this course will gain essential knowledge and skills that could lead to immediate employment or progression to higher education. This course places particular emphasis on equipping learners with the relevant vocational knowledge and skills to progress into higher level courses in the areas of physical education, sports coaching, strength and conditioning, sports science and fitness instructing.

The aim of this progarmme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence in a range of sports, recreation and exercise activities to work independently and under supervision in a variety of sports related contexts and or to progress to higher education and training. This course is designed to equip students with a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to work under supervision and independently in the sports and recreation industry.

The National Sportsturf Management Apprenticeship is for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the sportsturf sector or existing personnel employed in a sportsturf facility that would like to gain a recognised qualification.
