BSc Hons Biomedical Science with Diploma in Professional Practice (DPP)/Diploma in International Academic Studies (DIAS) 4 years full-time. In order to attain the DPP students normally undertake a placement in either industry or a research institute. To attain the DIAS students undertake a period of studies overseas at another educational institution.

Biomedical science is concerned with understanding how diseases develop and how they may affect the normal functioning of the body. The aim of the discipline is the investigation of the disease process and, ultimately, the development of methods for monitoring, diagnosing, treating and preventing disease.

This course will appeal to those with a keen interest in science and in how research and technology can impact on human health. It is training scientists at the interface of science and medicine. You will learn how scientifically driven investigations can advance our knowledge of disease prevention, detection and treatment and translating these into clinical utility.

The course will immerse you in modern medical and biological sciences and focus on the application of scientific developments. BHLS offers students a unique opportunity to complete a research project with a Principal Investigator in a biomedical research area that interests them and an opportunity to be involved in peer-reviewed publications.

Biopharmaceutical Chemistry is a multidisciplinary subject that combines areas of chemistry and biology. The Biopharmaceutical Chemistry course has a relatively small intake of students and includes ample opportunity for research within projects in years 2 and 4, and a 20-26 week work placement in Year 3.

This Special Purpose Award in Biopharmaceutical Supply Chain Management is designed to broaden and deepen the knowledge and skill base of graduates of a Level 7 degree in Supply Chain Management or in Business and Engineering disciplines who already have experience of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Supply Chain graduates have shown particular interest in enhancing their knowledge of issues such as the strategic management, transport planning, customs management, and global logistics and supply chain management in the Biopharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical industry sectors.

This one-year programme is an industrially focused Level 8 programme where students gain valuable knowledge and skills in key subject area, which are pertinent to working in highly regulated and automated manufacturing and distribution environments such as GMP, QA, QC, Lean Manufacturing, Operations Management, Lean Supply Chains.

This course aims to produce graduates with the skills needed for employment as technicians/technologists or scientific personnel in the fields of biotechnology and biosciences. The first year of the course will give you a solid foundation in biology, chemistry and physics.

Bioscience is the branch of science concerned with living organisms and is the foundation of many other schools of scientific inquiry, including biopharmaceuticals, which refers to medical drugs manufactured in living organisms such as bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells.

This course will advance students’ skills in bioanalysis, biotechnology, genetics, immunology, diagnostics, bioforensics and biopharmaceutical science.

Biotechnology explores all aspects of modern molecular biology including recombinant DNA technology, antibody production and uses, and animal cell culture. It covers disciplines including genetics, molecular biology, immunology, molecular microbiology, biochemistry, and cell biology.

Biotechnology is a dynamic and evolving area with many opportunities and challenges, which is making significant contributions to the ‘smart economy’ in areas such as healthcare, agri- business, the food industry and the environment. As a scientific discipline Biotechnology is a blend of Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Nanotechnology, with a strong component of Computer Technology - all of these disciplines are explored as part of this programme.

The aim of this 4-year level 8 ab initio programme is to provide graduates with an Honours degree in Biotechnology with an emphasis on Biopharmaceutical Science.

It meets the growing demand of the Life Sciences and Biopharmaceutical sectors for highly skilled graduates with specialist training in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biomolecular Techniques, Mammalian Cell Culture, Bioanalysis, Bioprocessing, Quality Management and Data Analytics.

Bioveterinary science is dedicated to the investigation of life processes and exploring the inter-relationships of living organisms. This degree emphasizes specific technologies, interactions and/or systems (e.g. animal behaviour, biochemistry, biotechnology), or the environments that living organisms inhabit (e.g. ecology, environmental biology). 

This course will equip you with the knowledge, skills and competence to produce and maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a range of organisations, using manual and computerised systems

The aim of this course is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and competencies to operate both a manual book-keeping system from source documents up to trial balance and also to use a computerised accounts system.

Successful malting, brewing and distilling requires the application of both scientific and engineering principles. This four-year course, which is the first undergraduate malting, brewing and distilling degree in Ireland, equips students with the necessary scientific knowledge and instrumentation competencies to work in the malting, brewing and distilling industry.

Combined with modules in product development, marketing and regulatory affairs, graduates will be ideally qualified to work in these expanding industries.

On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified brick and stonelayer, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Brick and Stonelaying.

Brick and stonelayers go on to be employed in the building industry, working on new buildings, restorations, and extensions.

Many craftspersons use their qualification as a platform to launch careers such as managers, owners of businesses and instructors amongst others.
