Wildlife Biology is the study of the natural environment, the living things in it, and their interactions. Our biological science degree in Veterinary Bioscience has a major focus on animal health, disease and diagnostics. For the sixth subject area, students study either ‘Education in Aquatics’ or ‘Outdoor and Experiential Learning’. All course material is delivered through a mix of applied theory and practice. The programmes consist of applied, active training programmes (massage casework, aquatic therapy, aquatic rehabilitation, applied anatomy and posture, functional assessment, fitness testing) and the theoretical foundations underpinning the promotion of wellness (wellbeing science, behaviour change, exercise referral) and optimal body function through massage/ body work.

The Coaching and Sports Performance programme aims to develop, from evidence- based theory and practice, the students’ ability to lead physical activity, to coach athletes (individually and in teams), and manage sports teams and individual athletes.

Graduates will also have the knowledge, skills, competence and first-hand experience to design and lead strength and conditioning programmes and to design and lead performance training programmes.

The programme focuses on key theories with applied research and practical skills in these core domains to provide graduates with the relevant knowledge, skills and competences to work as professionals in a wide range of sports coaching, athletic development, and health and wellbeing settings.

The option of a comprehensive sports internship programme that provides not just breadth, but also significant depth, in the operational machinations of the ‘coaching science and sports performance’ industry in Ireland and/ or abroad, is an integral component of this programme.

Counselling involves engaging and listening to clients about their emotions, relationships, thought processes, patterns of behaviour or life events such as bereavement, addiction, divorce, health issues or job concerns. Counsellors help clients to understand themselves better and find their own solutions to resolve or cope with their situation or issues. Counsellors play a crucial role in improving the health and wellbeing of people in society.

While undertaking this programme, you will learn the skills to provide nursing care in a variety of settings. It emphasises the importance of working with other professions and planning individualised nursing care in partnership with patients. As with all nurse education programmes, our focus is on caring, communication and understanding the patient’s experience of health and illness.

The aim of mental health nursing is to promote mental health and wellness, to plan with, support and provide nursing care to people who suffer from mental illness and mental distress, and to support families and communities in dealing with mental health challenges.

This care can be provided in acute care facilities such as hospitals, in peoples own homes and community care settings. Supporting on-going mental health recovery is an important role of being a mental health nurse.

All aspects of the programme are intrinsically linked to the food industry, which is rapidly expanding and changing its future focus to meet consumer demands and expectations. This programme is designed to provide learners with a holistic comprehension of the food industry. With subjects covering food and food science underpinned by sustainability, new and future technology, analytics, management, and leadership, graduates will become leaders in food business. Learners will also develop a professional network through work-based learning, thus gaining valuable experience by applying their theoretical knowledge in practice.

This programme allows students to study a wide array of Home Economics and Business related modules.  This programme is the first in its kind as it is the only programme that offers a BA (Hons) in Home Economics and Business nationally.  Furthermore, the opportunities upon successful completion are vast.

Graduates may decide to pursue a Professional Master of Education (PME) in Home Economics and Business or decide to work as a Home Economist with families in a community setting. Graduates also have the knowledge, skills and competencies to work in area’s of food, nutrition, textiles, household technology (to name but a few).

Restricted course. Music Performance Studies are a central part of the course. In year 3 and 4 you specialise in one of Performance Studies, Music in the Community, Pedagogic [Music Teaching] Studies, Music Technology, Music Therapy, it is equally possible to specialise in Applied Musicianship Skills and/or Music History.

This is an intensively hands-on course, aimed at talented students who already have a basic level of skill in the three ‘triple-threat’ areas: singing, dancing and acting.

The course combines personal skills training with group and teamwork, expressed through annual public performances in professional theatres. As well as working with highly qualified core staff, the students will meet professionals from all musical theatre fields, following up- to-the-minute trends and making contacts and networks for life.

Theatre and Drama Studies is a practice-based course for those intending to pursue a career in theatre or dramatic arts. Individual acting skills, voice production, ensemble performance and related theatre design and technical audio visual studies equip the student to work in live theatre, broadcast media or community-based arts facilitation.

This honours degree course centres on theatre performance training, with supporting modules to facilitate wider career options. The course aims to produce artists that are physically and vocally flexible and intellectually alive and curious. 

This 3-year degree programme builds the fundamental knowledge and skills of students for a career in the events industry, by mixing event modules such as Event Risk Management, Event Project Management, Event Production & Design, Event Fundraising & Sponsorship and Event Operations Management, with a solid foundation of business focussed modules in areas of marketing, financial management and entrepreneurship.

The course also includes modules which encourage the personal development of students including, Leadership & Team Building, Research & Writing Skills and Volunteerism & Community Events. 

This programme has been fine-tuned to create a structured business education that launches you into a successful career in business.

You will gain a thorough grounding in the principles and practice of finance, marketing (including digital media and social media marketing), management, creative problem solving and information technology. During the first year, students will study common modules, as they progress into second year they will be offered a choice of specialisms (choose 1): Marketing, Accounting, Management.

This four-year honours degree programme offers advanced specialist education in accounting, providing a firm base for either further academic study, a career in business or the pursuit of a professional qualification with one of the accountancy bodies.
