This degree provides experiences, insights and knowledge into early childhood education and care. Early childhood educators work with children from infancy to primary school. Our programme aims to develop well-informed, articulate professionals who are passionate about early childhood education and care. There is a strong focus on play and learning, the close relationship to nature and outdoor experiences and children’s rights to participation. This firm academic foundation is cemented by a strong emphasis on practical application of theory.

The BA (Hons) Applied Social Care degree is designed to enable graduates to make the world a better place for everyone, by empowering and enabling people, and by correcting the social injustices that exist in today's society. You will learn about the multiple causes of social oppression and ways of working with people with a variety of needs so they can be healthy, resilient and free contributors to a caring society.

Students with a second-class honours from a PSI accredited degree are eligible to apply for postgraduate training in a range of specialisations in psychology.

This Common Entry degree offers three Award Options:

These degrees offer a unique blend of academic learning and adventure sports training. The Higher Certificate in Computing is a two year programme where students begin in this shared first year alongside all other computing students across our programmes. At the end of Year 1, we counsel students on their next step, offering the following programmes to join: Computing, Computer Networks and Cyber Security, Software Development, and Games Development.

This programme is an general entry science programme that gives students an exceptional level of flexibility. The programme builds a core foundation in key science disciplines in Year 1. Our science programmes are hands-on, with a big emphasis on developing practical skills. This means our students graduate with the skills employers want. Students spend 50% of their time in labs and have access to state-of-the-art, industry-spec equipment. Small class sizes ensure students always have their own lab space and are fully supported by our expert academic staff throughout their learning. This three-year degree produces graduates with a blend of business-related knowledge and skills. Graduates are equipped with knowledge in core business areas. Interior Architecture and Design is a profession that explores new ways to create inspiring interior environments within the built environment, promoting sustainability through creative re-use of space. Whether it’s developing an existing space or creating a new one, interior architects design comfortable homes, functional workspace and inspirational public spaces that consider architectural forms, environmental impacts, and psychological and cognitive components of the space. Our students develop their designs and hone their skills under the guidance of experienced architects and interior designers.

The Creative Design programme at ATU Sligo gives students the skills and experience needed to become an industry-ready designer to work in many different areas to suit their design interests. Graduates of this degree are designing cars, apps, medical devices, and are working in design areas such as graphics, electronic products, start-ups and more.

The degree is designed to offer students the widest possible experience in materials and media - drawing, painting, digital media photography and video, ceramics, printmaking, sculptural studies, work in context, visual literacy and visual material culture, and history/theory of art. These are taught with a focus on the student’s own research and art-making initiatives as the years progress.

This programme is designed to provide graduates with the skills to work as actors in theatre, film and television. Coursework includes skills classes, workshops, masterclasses from industry professionals and performances in the universities's Black Box theatre. Throughout the three years, students are introduced to the main acting genres and given a range of approaches to acting. In addition to vocal and movement skills, students learn how to create characterisation. Although we will want to see students develop as creative individuals, they will also learn to be part of an ensemble.

ATU Sligo offer a wide range of engineering programmes including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Precision Engineering and Design. This degree offers students the opportunity to study engineering in a general way for a semester before specialising in an area of their choice. This general engineering semester gives students exposure to all different types of engineering and equips them with the fundamentals of engineering.

Mechatronics is the combination of mechanical, electronic, robotic and software engineering systems that are used in modern manufacturing industries. Mechatronic engineers are problem solvers by nature, looking for solutions to sometimes difficult engineering applications. This programme offers both an applied and practical-based approach with content that develops industry-relevant and sought-after skills. It is designed to address the needs of industry by supplying skilled technicians who have developed a diverse set of skills in machine design, sensor technology, control systems, computing and industrial networks 

Our Mechanical Engineering degree provides students with the skills, knowledge, and competencies required to begin a career in mechanical and manufacturing engineering. This degree enables students to understand and apply the principles of mathematics, science, physics, and the various mechanical engineering technologies, as well as practising design processes and techniques.

This programme is designed to address the needs of industry by supplying skilled technicians who have developed a diverse set of skills. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including comprehensive material and testing laboratories, industry standards software in CAD/CAM, automation equipment, traditional manufacturing workshops, and 3D printers as well as advanced CNC machines. 

Civil Engineering is a dynamic industry, which is continuously evolving and changing. Civil Engineering is about creating, improving and protecting the environment in which we live. This programme is a blend of formal lectures, relevant practical classes to enhance understanding of topics and projects to apply the information learnt to typical Civil Engineering applications. The early part of the programme develops an understanding of science and technology which are the underlying principles of engineering. A significant number of practical classes, projects and labs ensure that students get to apply what they learn in lectures.  

The quantity surveyor has the responsibility of controlling project cost and are central to the decision-making process throughout the development of a construction project from initial inception to final completion. This programme prepares students for the specialised discipline of quantity surveying and offers graduates a broad skills base for the specialised profession. 

This programme has been designed in partnership with industry to meet the needs of the ‘Green Economy’, which reports have projected to be a major area of employment within the Irish economy. This broad-based level 7 degree programme emphasises the principles of construction and has a strong bias towards sustainable construction practices. It equips students with practical carpentry and joinery skills and an in-depth knowledge of sustainable building technologies and materials, including the retrofitting / refurbishment of existing dwellings to achieve a low carbon design and the construction of new low-energy buildings.

The BSc in Computing is a three year programme where students begin in this shared first year alongside all other computing students across our programmes. The aim is to teach students how to use industry standard tools and techniques and then explain the concepts behind them. Creativity, problem solving, persistence and critical thinking are key skills which are developed during the course. At the end of Year 1, we counsel students on their next step, offering the following programmes to join: Computing, Software Development, and Games Development.

After Year 3, students may choose to continue their study in that computer programme to acquire a Level 8 honours degree (all but Games Development offer a Level 8 degree).

This degree focuses on the infrastructure that powers the movement of data about the Internet. Students get an in-depth understanding of computer network design, implementation and optimisation through a suite of modules that focus on cutting edge technologies. This includes software defined networks, public, private and hybrid cloud technologies and ethical hacking. The cyber security eco-system has evolved and grown at an exponential rate over the last number of years and is a critical aspect for all sectors of our economy.

Our objective is to equip graduates with the skills to seek employment in this level of business. We constantly re-assess programme content to keep apace of emerging platforms and industry trends.This programme takes into account the specific requirements of the global software industry and what it expects from graduates. The emphasis on the programme is in supplying students with coding and communication skills to enable them to be productive members of a growing worldwide software technology sector. 

This degree uses a software engineering approach to games development, combining study of the technical aspects of games programming, including virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence, with the principles of project management, quality assurance and organisational management.  While focused on developing games software, we also provide a general grounding in software engineering to equip students with the breadth of skills to work in any aspect of the information technology industry.

A cutting edge games development computer laboratory and peripheral hardware are just some of the features on this programme which allow students to flex their creativity and gain first-hand experience. 

This three year degree equips graduates with the skills to manage our manmade and natural resources. Through a mix of outdoor fieldwork, high-tech laboratory practicals, computer mapping, site visits and classroom learning and activities, students gain a range of skills to thrive in this increasingly important industry.
