This degree uses a software engineering approach to games development, combining study of the technical aspects of games programming, including virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence, with the principles of project management, quality assurance and organisational management.  While focused on developing games software, we also provide a general grounding in software engineering to equip students with the breadth of skills to work in any aspect of the information technology industry.

A cutting edge games development computer laboratory and peripheral hardware are just some of the features on this programme which allow students to flex their creativity and gain first-hand experience.

Students learn how to effectively work with people by working within groups and teams to solve real workplace safety and health issues. The degree gives a blend of theoretical and practical learning through lectures, laboratory based monitoring, site visits, case studies and enquiry based learning. 

Pharmaceutical Science combines a range of scientific subjects that are vital in the development, discovery, processing and manufacturing of different drugs and therapies. This degree provides students with a broad but thorough background in the chemical, biological, and technological disciplines as they relate to the study of medicinal products. It allows students to develop a range of skills, covering scientific, engineering, regulatory and quality issues, as well as delivering excellent communication skills. Modules are based around the core pharmaceutical sciences, but with emphasis also placed on modern technology and advances within the sector. 

Biomedical Science is the study and application of biological systems for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. This degree gives students access to the latest industry innovations and advancements, teaching them skills needed to gain employment in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, diagnostics and medical device industries in Ireland and abroad.

Forensic Investigation and Analysis encompasses the application of a forensic investigative approach using advanced analytical science for the provision of scientific data and evidence. This programme aims to produce graduates with a strong academic base in health science disciplines related to physical activity and exercise. Students will graduate with a thorough understanding of health sciences and their application. Emphasis is placed on developing core health-related skills and competencies. The degree is comprised of a number of inter-related subject streams including health promotion and public health, physical activity, exercise physiology, nutrition sciences, and research methods. Core modules are complemented by supporting modules in IT and communications..

This business degree is diverse and offers students a variety of career paths and further study options when they graduate. Guest lecturers, with national and international profiles, regularly visit to share their expertise with students. Students also complete real-life projects in collaboration with industry experts. 

This three-year honours degree programme is a joint collaboration developed between St Angela’s College and ATU Sligo. It covers the disciplines of Business and Irish simultaneously and equally. The Business strand is undertaken through the medium of English, and the Irish strand through the medium of Irish. Opportunities occur to marry both subjects throughout the degree. Graduates of this programme have the knowledge, skills, and attributes to progress to careers or further study in a variety of fields.

This three year honours degree in Law and Business is the only such programme in this field available within the northwest and midland region. This innovative degree has been developed in partnership with industry. Students divide their time between law and business, while also exploring the connections between these fields of study. Students will explore complex and key issues by drawing on a broad reservoir of legal business knowledge and computing technologies required for the commercial world. 

Sociology focuses on understanding and analysing how human societies work. It studies everyday social practices, as well as discussing questions around economic inequality, power, gender and race, for example. Politics looks more at the decision-making process that groups or organisations make. These don’t necessarily have to be governmental. Politics can be found in most interactions, from schools to businesses and religious institutions.

Taking a combination of Sociology and Politics, this degree gives students an insight into how social and political forces affect our everyday lives and what we can do to effect change. By equipping students with an in-depth knowledge of society and politics on a national and global scale, we encourage them to look beyond face-value assumptions and start questioning what is perceived as common sense in our world. 

The BA (Hons) English and Psychology degree at ATU Sligo enables students to think critically and acquire a deep understanding of the human condition and human behaviour through the study of English and Psychology. The transferable skills, knowledge, and understanding acquired on the programme are highly relevant and sought after by a wide variety of industry employers and postgraduate educational programmes. 

Social Care Practice is a dynamic and continuously developing field that is now a professionally regulated career under CORU, along with other health and social care professions. Throughout this honours degree, students develop their critical thinking skills, have a greater understanding of human interaction and how to respond in a professional and informed way to the needs of people who use support services.

The overarching aim of this degree is to foster and develop the knowledge, skills, competencies, and values of emerging Early Years Professionals to be independent and professional educators. The programme aims to meet the criteria for initial professional education, forming graduates who have the expertise to nurture and enrich infants' and young children's lives in early years learning and care settings. Combining theory with professional practice, this applied degree supports graduates to become skilled, competent, ethical, and reflective practitioners. 

Architecture is the art of planning and designing the built environment based on an understanding of humankind and our connection to the earth. It is a collaborative practice. The ethos of Architecture at ATU Sligo is the belief in the potential of architecture to transform places. We aim for a strong student-centred culture with dialogues between students and lecturers at its core. This programme provides education and training for the practice of architecture, taught in a way that makes explicit an understanding of and sensitivity to historical, contextual and cultural influences on the practice of design in a global, national, and local context.

This course has Royal Institute of Architects (RIAI) accreditation.

Interior Architecture and Design is all about manipulating and forming an internal space, whether it be an existing or new building. Our Interior Architecture and Design programme focuses an environmentally conscious approach to the re-use, re-imagination and innovative re-invention of the existing built environment with a strong focus on sculpting interior space. Our graduates are skilled in responding creatively to both the Interior Architectural aspects of place, heritage and building as well as interpretation of client’s identity and design needs.    

The Creative Design programme at ATU Sligo gives students the skills and experience needed to become an industry-ready designer to work in many different areas to suit their design interests. Graduates of this degree are designing cars, apps, medical devices, and are working in design areas such as graphics, electronic products, start-ups and more.

The degree is designed to offer students the widest possible experience in materials and media - drawing, painting, digital media photography & video, ceramics, printmaking, sculptural studies, work in context, visual literacy and visual material culture and history/theory of art. These are taught with a focus on the student’s own research and art-making initiatives as the years progress.
