This course is suited to those who wish to specialise in chemistry for the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries. Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a very important branch of Chemistry that is applied to the synthesis and formulation of new therapeutic drugs as well as the manufacture of medicinal compounds on a large scale.

The Pharmaceutical Healthcare course provides students with an integrated curriculum of practice and theory focussing on the key concepts in pharmaceutical sciences and technology.

It develops students’ knowledge of the fundamental principles, as well as latest developments and applications, equipping them for employment in a variety of areas within biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as associated industries.

The programme will introduce learners to many of the aspects of a manufacturing plant. Learners will also complete work placement in a manufacturing setting. Pharmacology is the branch of science concerned with the study of how drugs interact with cells, tissues, and organisms. This course promotes the development of flexible interpersonal skills essential for effective interaction and engagement with colleagues in the working world. This is achieved through the implementation of team-based learning strategies in specific modules.  

The ATU MPharm will deliver a programme of pharmacy education and training which meets all the requirements set out in pharmacy law, allowing the student to develop all the competencies necessary to become registered to practise as a pharmacist in Ireland.

Over the five years, students will have the opportunity to learn from and alongside pharmacists, clinicians, patients and other leading experts from a variety of fields, as well as undertaking structured work placements across the spectrum of pharmacy and healthcare practice.
