Students on this course will study the causes and different types of crime, the criminal justice system in Ireland and the operation of the penal system.

Psychology is the scientific investigation of behaviour and mental processes. It aims to study how a person thinks, feels and acts in any social situation. The main emphasis is on the individual and how they can affect and be affected by social contact with other parties.

Applied Psychology avails of general psychological principles and theories and uses them to investigate problems in the area of business management, product design, ergonomics, law, health and mental health.

This course provides learners with the knowledge and skills to work in the nutrition or general healthcare area where nutritional, general health or mental health support is required.

Learners will learn the importance of developing a holistic and client focused approach to work and will develop the knowledge and skillset to meet the emotional, psychological and social needs of clients in the healthcare sector. The role exercise, diet and nutrition plays in maintaining and enhancing both physical and mental health will be a focus of the course.

This course will introduce you to psychological science and provide you with a broad understanding of the careers within the social and behavioural sciences. Over the year, you will learn how psychologists’ study, explain, and predict behaviour, and how abnormal thinking and behaving is classified and treated. Additionally, you will explore topics in social psychology, including the psychology of evil, attitudes and bias. You will learn how psychology is applied in settings such as mental health, school, and forensics. This is a one year specialist course training students to work as Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) in Pre school, Primary and Secondary School Classrooms. Primary and Secondary Schools as well as specialist schools employ Special Needs Assistants to work in a variety of educational settings.

Applicants should have a love of children and gain pleasure in helping others. If you have a vocation to assist pre school,primary or secondary students and enjoy school life, this course is very fulfilling. You should be mature, hardworking and organised. You will be responsible for securing an appropriate off site work placement.

Applicants who would like to blend an interest in retail with science and who have an interest in health in the community will find this course a useful introduction to the world of pharmacy.

This course prepares students for work in Pharmacies, health stores etc. It also offers a platform to go on to study Pharmacy Technician courses at Third level.

Hospital administration includes a diverse array of job duties to ensure that patients receive quality care and communication while at a medical facility. Situated with the largest hospital campus in the country on our doorstep, this exciting course is designed to assist you gain employment in medical administration.

If you see yourself employed as a liaison between the patient and medical staff in a hospital or medical setting, then then our highly committed team will train you in computer and reception skills, communication techniques, the use of appropriate medical terminology and relevant work experience. Students will attend college four days each week and are required to complete one day per week work experience in a medical administration environment. There will also be a two-week block placement.

This course is designed for those with an interest in psychology who would like to gain knowledge and understanding of this area. It aims to give participants an introduction to the core theories and methodologies of psychology while preparing them for further study at third level. In addition, the course lays the foundation for a wide variety of people-focused careers such as social research, care work, environmental psychology, marketing and human resource management.

This course introduces learners to Social Studies and Social Care work. The course provides an academic foundation along with the practical experience necessary for working in the area of Social Care. It is also ideal for those who wish to continue their studies by progressing to Level 6 or higher at Third Level.

Two years, part-time for the full award. Students will receive a QQI component certificate at the end of the first year.

The purpose of this course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the practices and principles underpinning the role of a Special Needs Assistant to enable the learner to work effectively under direction in a special needs capacity.

This programme develops skills, knowledge and understanding of the special needs assistant role. The programme will promote good practice among those working with people with additional needs, special needs children in the primary or secondary classroom situation or as a community care assistant with individuals with special needs.
