This one-year course will aim to prepare participants for entrance into law and arts programmes in Irish universities and colleges. It also prepares students to work both in a legal environment in Ireland and abroad as well as in the legal departments of the business world.

This law course option is available with additional modules in Business Administration, Applied Economics and Accounting Manual and Computerised.  This course will also help those who want to study legal, business or combination courses in ITs or universities.

Pre-University law enables students to study Business and Criminal Law which cover some of the fundamental legal concepts in the core modules of all undergraduate law degrees. Students are provided with the skills and knowledge to advance to higher education to study for an undergraduate degree in Law, Business and Law, Commerce or Law and Criminology.

Students of the Pre-University Law course also gain an understanding of civil and criminal procedure.

Pre-university Law will equip you with a basic understanding of a wide range of legal concepts along with the administrative skills required in any legal secretarial role. The focus is on Irish law but aspects of European Law are also highlighted and discussed. You will be studying the importance of law to the operation of businesses in Ireland and where these laws originated. You will be able to identify, discuss and apply sources of law including the relevance of EU law. This course provides students with an introduction to the Irish legal system and general law subjects, with a clear focus on criminology. Although the same QQI Award as Legal Studies, this course focuses on crime and criminal law, and will include seminars and events in this arena, such as criminal court visits and input from stakeholders related to crime and law such as the Garda Siochana. Students may also choose work placements for work experience in this particular vocational area. It is suited to students who wish to progress to a degree in law at third level specifically Criminal Law. This course is designed to help students develop the essential skills and techniques which form the basis for a career in business, public service or the legal industry.

This one-year Pre-University Law course will provide the ideal starting point for learners who are keen to progress to third level education to study for a law degree or any degree including a law subject.

This full-time one -year programme is for those interested in working in law. It is an excellent taster programme, with emphasis on a basic introduction to the primary areas of Irish law and the Irish Legal System. The principal pathways for further study are into Arts, Business or Law degrees. It is also a useful course for anyone seeking to apply to join the Defence Forces or An Garda Síochána.
