The level 2 City & Guilds Diploma in Food Preparation and Culinary Arts is designed for candidates who are looking to start or develop a career in hospitality. They cover both transferable and job role specific skills, ensuring candidates become work ready not only for a specific role but for a career in the hospitality industry. By incorporating the latest industry trends and technology, this qualification prepares the graduates for international work, taking their first steps towards a successful career. This course will enable students to achieve strong culinary and pastry skills. Students will develop an understanding of menu planning and meal serv­ice. Students will be given the opportunity to gain EHAI (Envi­ronmental Health Association of Ireland) certification in Food Safety. Valid for a period of five years. This course is aimed at students interested in becoming chefs within the hospitality sector. On completion of the course chefs are work ready or can progress to the Commis Chef level 6 programme or pursue a culinary arts degree.

If you are looking to begin a dynamic and fulfilling career in catering and the culinary arts then this one-year QQI level 5 course is ideal. Combining practical and theoretical modules, this program is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to secure long-term employment in the catering industry or to allow you to confidently pursue further education.

This one year course aims to provide students with the necessary practical skills and theoretical knowledge to pursue a career in Culinary Arts. All students participate in work experience where they practice their skills and gain valuable knowledge in the industry. This course was developed in response to the skills shortages currently being experienced within this industry in Ireland.

This course is timetabled over three days per week to accommodate chefs working in the industry.

This course will enable students to develop good culinary skills and pastry skills. Students will study Food Science, Food Technology, International Cuisines, Word Processing, Personal Effectiveness, Food Hygiene and develop an understanding of Menu Planning, Menu Design, and Meal Service.

This full-time one-year programme will equip students with the necessary skills to go directly into the workplace or to pursue further study in a culinary area. Culinary skills are in high demand in Ireland and abroad, so employment prospectus are excellent.

Work placement/work experience maybe a core feature/element programmes in this field facilitating the enhancement of employability and transversal skills.

With this qualification you'll gain an insight in the basic operations of a flight attendant, learning the skills needed to make announcements while on-board, respond to emergency situations and manage to flow of the passengers.

With this qualification you'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to prepare and serve hot and cold drinks in any environment.

Hotel & Hospitality Operations is a PLC Work-Based programme, and part of your study will include work placements with our Hotel and Hospitality partners, where you will work with experienced colleagues, and learn practical skills in the business context. This programme leads to a qualification that will be your passport to exciting careers in the world of hospitality operations and management, including options to travel and to progress to Higher Education, and to progress to Level 6 Supervisory Management at Carlow Institute.
