This programme is for students who wish to work in the area of food production, quality assurance, nutrition, and product development, with a focus on future foods and the role of food in the health of people, in Ireland and globally. this course provides students with a broad science-based education, with specialist content on the future of food development, human nutrition, and the role of food and healthy living, and also explores the social and global challenges around food security.

This programme is based on the core scientific disciplines of sport and exercise science - physiology and biomechanics. Students will learn to understand how to achieve maximum performance for the high performing athlete, and those who are looking to support exercise and physical activity for the health of the wider population, of all ages and capabilities.

This course is suited to those who wish to specialise in chemistry for the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries. Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a very important branch of Chemistry that is applied to the synthesis and formulation of new therapeutic drugs as well as the manufacture of medicinal compounds on a large scale.

In this programme you will receive an excellent education in chemistry (physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry), and have the opportunity to specialise in pharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry and bioinorganic chemistry.

The degree covers all the major theories of psychology, as well as research methods and statistics for psychological data analysis. You will cover areas such as Brain and Behaviour, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Developmental Psychology.

Data Science is the science of collating, managing, analysing, visualising and understanding data. It is key to unlocking the hidden wisdom that is stored in the vast amounts of data available in today’s world.

Data Science students study statistics, computer science and mathematics and crucially will learn to appreciate the overlap between eliciting valuable information from data through statistical reasoning and managing databases via complex manipulations.

Study the entire physical world from the microscopic to the cosmic - topics such as black holes, the Big Bang, quantum computing, elementary particles and the fundamental forces of nature, superconductivity, neural networks, matter in extreme conditions, and simulation of physical and biological systems.

In this degree you will develop a deeper understanding of the various areas of modern mathematics, including analysis, algebra, geometry, and topology.

Students learn how to use analytical and technical procedures to monitor and improve human health and to investigate disease processes. The degree is broadly similar to the pre-clinical component of a medical degree.

Students also learn how to ask questions, make observations, and analyse evidence in theory work and through practical laboratory sessions– and to present and communicate findings clearly while developing computer literacy and research skills.

Astronomy is the scientific study of celestial objects (stars, planets, comets, asteroids) and phenomena (cosmic radiation, dark energy). This course provides a solid grounding in physics and astrophysics, as well as planetary science, astronomy, astronomical instrumentation and techniques, and cosmology.

The core areas in Biology and Geography covered by the programme provide foundation knowledge across both disciplines, and explore in different ways how the dynamic planet Earth supports such a diversity of climates, landforms, ecosystems and species, and also how human activity is impacting on all of these from a local to a global scale.

Biotechnology explores all aspects of modern molecular biology including recombinant DNA technology, antibody production and uses, and animal cell culture. It covers disciplines including genetics, molecular biology, immunology, molecular microbiology, biochemistry, and cell biology.

In the BSc degree students study a broad range of subjects inlcuding Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering Science, Mathematics – and newer disciplines such as Biotechnology, Genetics, Bioinformatics and Multimedia.

The BA in Community and Youth Work is a fully integrated programme of education and training in both community and youth work. Community work is concerned with the development and empowerment of communities through facilitating the active participation of people in addressing issues that affect them collectively.

The BA in Creative Writing and English offers you the opportunity to develop critical and creative skills within one programme, which is innovative not only for its integration of two intertwined subjects, but for its industry links and its teaching practices.

Graduates of the BA in Creative Writing and English will be equipped with: skills in creative thinking; the ability to formulate, present and disseminate complex issues; excellent communication skills; a highly-tuned sensitivity to language usage; the ability to tell and organise stories in compelling ways; an understanding of how to inhabit alternative viewpoints and outlooks. In our Media Studies degree students will study the principles and practices of audio-visual production and interactive web authoring, how to research and analyse media cultures, genres and industries, and the role of media in society and politics.

Students engage in independent and group projects to develop their media practice and have a flexible range of optional modules to expand their critical understanding.

This course introduces students to a wide variety of music fields including: Irish traditional music, ethnomusicology, jazz and popular music, music therapy and the classical repertoire.

Students are encouraged to develop their performance skills, to take tuition to an advanced level with their chosen instrument and to take an active part in one of the Department's vocal or instrumental ensembles.

Anthropology explores the comparative study of human society and culture. By closely observing and analysing different ways of life around the world, from tribal villages to Wall Street offices, anthropologists create new knowledge about what it means to be human today.

Anthropology students learn about diverse cultural practices and social institutions such as: religion and ritual, kinship, family and the life course, economy and the market, politics and government, language and performance, science and technology, traditional healing and biomedicine, and much more.

This is the study of all the essentials of computers and software. All options share a common first year in Computer Studies (plus Mathematics and options to take other subjects) after which students can choose which degree path they wish to pursue.
