The BA in Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance at DCU is a four-year, full time Honours degree which trains you for a life as a professional performing musician. You will also understand the context of the international music scene today, how the music business works and how you can make your mark in it. 

This course will prepare you to teach at post-primary level in two languages. You will take Gaeilge, along with a choice of either French, German or Spanish. 

Alongside developing your language abilities, the course also builds your skills in the areas of teamwork, leadership, communication and creativity. These are vital for a career in post primary teaching, but are also key to a variety of other professions. In this four-year course, you’ll benefit from studying in small class groups within the larger university community. 

This exciting programme blends theory and practice, preparing you to be an effective and inspiring teacher in two distinct subjects. Graduates are qualified to teach Religious Education and Music to Honours Leaving Certificate level.

You will explore the ideas behind Theology, Religious Studies and Ethics. You’ll also develop your musicianship to an advanced level and learn about composition. Alongside the core subject areas, the course has a focus on teamwork, leadership, communication and creativity - skills that will serve you well in a teaching career and can also transfer to a number of other professions.

This degree qualifies you to teach Religious Education and History to Honours Leaving Certificate Level. The course includes a variety of interesting core and optional topics. This programme prepares you for the modern-day teaching environment. You’ll be encouraged to develop the skills needed to work in classrooms of cultural and religious diversity. You’ll also gain valuable and extensive teaching experience, both within the university and in school-based placements. 

This course gives you a pathway to a rewarding and varied career in post-primary teaching, qualifying you to teach Religious Education and English to Honours Leaving Certificate Level.

As well as learning the skills you need to be an effective teacher, you will also immerse yourself in the ideas and theories of theology, religious studies and ethics; and explore the rich and fascinating world of English literature.

You’ll learn how to think intelligently, imaginatively, and independently about storytelling and song-making in civilization, from classical texts to contemporary pop culture. In addition to teacher education, you’ll develop your skills in teamwork, leadership, communication and creativity.

You’ll develop an understanding of human needs and capacities at crucial stages of the development process through your studies of Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy.

History
You’ll explore how human beings behave grounded on a close examination of how they have behaved in the past in all spheres of the world but with a particular emphasis on Ireland.

Music
You'll develop your musicality and deepen your understanding of music including classical, traditional, popular and other music styles drawing on a range of practical, analytical and critical approaches.

Geography
You’ll examine human activity, human-environment relations and physical environments at a variety of scales, from the local through to the global.

Philosophy
You will critically engage with a range of questions about issues such as truth, beauty, value, knowledge, and the nature of reality. In doing so, you will develop enhanced skills in clear analysis and rigorous argumentation.

World Religions and Theology
You'll critically engage with the big questions about life in order to understand the historical and contemporary significance of religious faith agus contemporary ethical dilemmas.

Film courses are designed to appeal to students that want to gain critical exposure to creative media and film practices, as well as gain work experience and applied learning for a future career in the creative media sector.

This degree has been designed to equip future managers with the necessary skills and knowledge that enable them to function effectively within a business environment. As well as providing a firm grounding in all aspects of business, it also introduces students to the key principles of understanding, choosing and managing information systems.

The Bachelor of Business in Marketing aims to develop student understanding of current marketing principles in both business and non-profit contexts, together with their applications in marketing practice.

This course is designed to meet the needs of tomorrow's marketing professional and the range of skills fostered will enable students to take advantage of opportunities to progress in a career in marketing management or a range of sub-disciplines such as marketing research or customer service.

The Bachelor of Business in Accounting programme provides foundation education in the quantitative, computational and analytical skills required in the world of business and accounting.

Students learn about the role and operation of accounting in a range of contexts. All major accountancy disciplines are covered including financial and cost accounting, management accounting, auditing and taxation.
