Sociology focuses on understanding and analysing how human societies work. It studies everyday social practices, as well as discussing questions around economic inequality, power, gender and race, for example. Politics looks more at the decision-making process that groups or organisations make. These don’t necessarily have to be governmental. Politics can be found in most interactions, from schools to businesses and religious institutions.

Taking a combination of Sociology and Politics, this degree gives students an insight into how social and political forces affect our everyday lives and what we can do to effect change. By equipping students with an in-depth knowledge of society and politics on a national and global scale, we encourage them to look beyond face-value assumptions and start questioning what is perceived as common sense in our world. 

This three year honours degree in Law and Business is the only such programme in this field available within the northwest and midland region. This innovative degree has been developed in partnership with industry. Students divide their time between law and business, while also exploring the connections between these fields of study. Students will explore complex and key issues by drawing on a broad reservoir of legal business knowledge and computing technologies required for the commercial world. 

This three-year honours degree programme is a joint collaboration developed between St Angela’s College and ATU Sligo. It covers the disciplines of Business and Irish simultaneously and equally. The Business strand is undertaken through the medium of English, and the Irish strand through the medium of Irish. Opportunities occur to marry both subjects throughout the degree. Graduates of this programme have the knowledge, skills, and attributes to progress to careers or further study in a variety of fields.

This programme is the first of its kind in Ireland, a three-year honours degree at Level 8 that combines sports-related modules with sound business practice. The programme focuses on introducing students to business and enterprise skills with opportunities for specific skill development in coaching, fitness instruction, personal training, education, exercise prescription and health. This programme prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities ranging from sports development, health promotion, marketing and management to teaching, coaching and becoming an entrepreneur.

Our final-year students are experiencing high demand for their skill set and receiving numerous offers of employment both locally and nationally, often prior to completion of the course. This degree is designed to ensure our graduates have the capabilities and skills for the current dynamic and challenging business environment. Students study core business areas throughout their studies before choosing their specialist stream in Year 4. Students choose between Finance, Marketing or Human Resource Management in their final year. This offers students the flexibility to explore various aspects of business before committing to a specialism. This programme looks at the broader business world and is perfect for a student looking to obtain a diverse range of skills and learn what area of business is for them.  

This degree blends the basic sciences, food science, physiology, biochemistry, psychology, and specialist nutrition modules in a unique and interesting way that gives students the knowledge, skills and training required to work as a nutritional or food scientist.

As the programme progresses, students will select a specialised subject, including advanced nutrition, public health nutrition, sports & exercise nutrition and clinical nutrition.

This programme aims to produce graduates with a strong academic base in health science disciplines related to physical activity and exercise. Students will graduate with a thorough understanding of health sciences and their application. Emphasis is placed on developing core health-related skills and competencies. The degree is comprised of a number of inter-related subject streams including health promotion and public health, physical activity, exercise physiology, nutrition sciences, and research methods. Core modules are complemented by supporting modules in IT and communications..

Forensic Investigation and Analysis encompasses the application of a forensic investigative approach using advanced analytical science for the provision of scientific data and evidence. Biomedical Science is the study and application of biological systems for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. This degree gives students access to the latest industry innovations and advancements, teaching them skills needed to gain employment in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, diagnostics and medical device industries in Ireland and abroad.

Pharmaceutical Science combines a range of scientific subjects that are vital in the development, discovery, processing and manufacturing of different drugs and therapies. This degree provides students with a broad but thorough background in the chemical, biological, and technological disciplines as they relate to the study of medicinal products. It allows students to develop a range of skills, covering scientific, engineering, regulatory and quality issues, as well as delivering excellent communication skills. Modules are based around the core pharmaceutical sciences, but with emphasis also placed on modern technology and advances within the sector. 

This programme gives students the knowledge and skills to protect workers from injuries and fatalities, prevent illness caused by work, promote health and well being, and advise employers on health and safety law. Students also learn how to prepare, implement and monitor safety management systems in the workplace. This degree engages students in a dynamic and innovative way, Year 1 through to Year 3. Students learn how to effectively work with people by working within groups and teams to solve real workplace safety and health issues. The degree gives a blend of theoretical and practical learning through lectures, laboratory based monitoring, site visits, case studies and enquiry based learning. 

This three year degree equips graduates with the skills to manage our manmade and natural resources. Through a mix of outdoor fieldwork, high-tech laboratory practicals, computer mapping, site visits and classroom learning and activities, students gain a range of skills to thrive in this increasingly important industry.

This degree uses a software engineering approach to games development, combining study of the technical aspects of games programming, including virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence, with the principles of project management, quality assurance and organisational management.  While focused on developing games software, we also provide a general grounding in software engineering to equip students with the breadth of skills to work in any aspect of the information technology industry.

A cutting edge games development computer laboratory and peripheral hardware are just some of the features on this programme which allow students to flex their creativity and gain first-hand experience.

We constantly re-assess programme content to keep apace of emerging platforms and industry trends.This programme takes into account the specific requirements of the global software industry and what it expects from graduates. The emphasis on the programme is in supplying students with coding and communication skills to enable them to be productive members of a growing worldwide software technology sector. 

This degree focuses on the infrastructure that powers the movement of data about the Internet. Students get an in-depth understanding of computer network design, implementation and optimisation through a suite of modules that focus on cutting edge technologies. This includes software defined networks, public, private and hybrid cloud technologies and ethical hacking. The cyber security eco-system has evolved and grown at an exponential rate over the last number of years and is a critical aspect for all sectors of our economy.

The BSc in Computing is a three year programme where students begin in this shared first year alongside all other computing students across our programmes. The aim is to teach students how to use industry standard tools and techniques and then explain the concepts behind them. Creativity, problem solving, persistence and critical thinking are key skills which are developed during the course. At the end of Year 1, we counsel students on their next step, offering the following programmes to join: Computing, Software Development, and Games Development.

After Year 3, students may choose to continue their study in that computer programme to acquire a Level 8 honours degree (all but Games Development offer a Level 8 degree).

This programme has been designed in partnership with industry to meet the needs of the ‘Green Economy’, which reports have projected to be a major area of employment within the Irish economy. This broad-based level 7 degree programme emphasises the principles of construction and has a strong bias towards sustainable construction practices. It equips students with practical carpentry and joinery skills and an in-depth knowledge of sustainable building technologies and materials, including the retrofitting / refurbishment of existing dwellings to achieve a low carbon design and the construction of new low-energy buildings.

The quantity surveyor has the responsibility of controlling project cost and are central to the decision-making process throughout the development of a construction project from initial inception to final completion. This programme prepares students for the specialised discipline of quantity surveying and offers graduates a broad skills base for the specialised profession. 

Civil Engineering is a dynamic industry, which is continuously evolving and changing. Civil Engineering is about creating, improving and protecting the environment in which we live. This programme is a blend of formal lectures, relevant practical classes to enhance understanding of topics and projects to apply the information learnt to typical Civil Engineering applications. The early part of the programme develops an understanding of science and technology which are the underlying principles of engineering. A significant number of practical classes, projects and labs ensure that students get to apply what they learn in lectures.  

Our Mechanical Engineering degree provides students with the skills, knowledge, and competencies required to begin a career in mechanical and manufacturing engineering. This degree enables students to understand and apply the principles of mathematics, science, physics, and the various mechanical engineering technologies, as well as practising design processes and techniques.

This programme is designed to address the needs of industry by supplying skilled technicians who have developed a diverse set of skills. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including comprehensive material and testing laboratories, industry standards software in CAD/CAM, automation equipment, traditional manufacturing workshops, and 3D printers as well as advanced CNC machines.
