Economics is the study of people in the ordinary business of life. It is about the choices and decisions that we make and the consequence of these decisions. The BSc Applied Economics is a degree in Economics with a difference. It is a 4 year degree combining the study and application of Economics with personal, professional development and the opportunity to go on work placement or study abroad.

You will study a range of modules from Marine Biology research at home and abroad (e.g. Spain or Portugal) to Environmental Management and Biodiversity / Conservation. You will be studying an exciting mix of subjects including Marine Biology, studies of rivers and lakes, ecology and zoology.

Year one involves the study of a range of Science modules and year two focuses on Biology - the science of life. Biologists explore and learn how organisms are constructed and how they function. This involves the study of reproduction, growth and development and how organisms capture and use raw materials and energy. Year three covers areas such as fisheries, pollution control, the environment and aquatic biology where the main activity entails the monitoring of the aquatic environment.

The sustainable development of renewable resources in the face of the rapidly expanding population and developing economy is a consistent theme throughout the programme. Graduates learn about the relevant ecological processes and gain an understanding of how they should be managed in a responsible and beneficial manner and the legal framework which seeks to protect them from undue exploitation. 

This course also prepares students for the emerging area of internet and telephone health care delivery. Clinical experience is an essential element of the course. Placement occurs in each year of the course, which allows the student to put theory into practice in a real health care setting.

The BA in Applied Language and Translation Studies (ALTS) is a unique degree that aims to prepare a new generation of translators and language professionals for global career opportunities. You will study two foreign languages with exciting combinations that include Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. Plus this dynamic degree allows you to explore the principles behind language, culture, translation and intercultural communication.

This programme aims to produce graduates with a high level of competence in at least two languages combined with a specialist knowledge of the societies in which those languages are spoken. The course also offers the unusual opportunity to take three languages to degree level. All languages are available at an advanced level, with German, Japanese and Spanish also available at beginners' level.

This long-established experimental physics course focuses on the real-world applications of fundamental physics. You’ll learn through a blend of lectures, tutorials and a strong element of laboratory and project work, gaining theoretical and analytical knowledge as well as excellent hands-on experimental, problem-solving and analytical skills. And you can focus on your core interests, by choosing from a range of specialisms such as data science, computational physics or semiconductors.

Gaining vital real-world experience
In third year, you’ll do an INTRA work placement, either in an industrial or research laboratory environment. We strongly support students applying for summer internships both nationally and internationally, and some Applied Physics students go on such competitive internships each year, both in Ireland and abroad.

The aim of this course is to prepare graduates for a range of technical positions within the multidisciplinary field of applied physics and instrumentation.

Whilst there is particular emphasis on employment within process industries, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, beverage and water, graduates are well equipped for employment in other sectors such as computers, medical devices and microelectronics, as well as in hospitals and in research and development.

This traineeship is the ideal course for community and political activists and those who volunteer in Community organisations, charities and advocacy groups.

This course is centred around practical skills applicable to nearly all political and advocacy areas. You will develop an understanding of how national, regional, and local political systems and organisations work and interact and how to engage with them effectively.

You are also required to complete work experience with a relevant political, community or advocacy organisation.
