Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. This course will provide you with the scientific knowledge and skills required to be a Physicist in addition to learning about the applications of computing and data science techniques in physics and related sciences.

Physics plays a crucial role in all of these areas. Physicists develop innovative technologies for these and other areas such as renewable energy, atmospheric monitoring, the green economy and many more.

Physics studies how our Universe works, from the smallest atomic nucleus to the largest galaxy. This BSc Physics with Medical Applications degree is aimed at students who want to learn about the application of the most fundamental of sciences to 21st-Century Medicine. Students undertaking this degree will still obtain a thorough grounding in modern physics, but will also take modules that gives them expertise in modern medical techniques, from CAT and MRI scans through to radiation and laser applications.

In the Physics of Medical Devices module, you’ll gain insights into the medical device industry, from the initial concept of a medical device to its manufacture. In the Diagnostic Imaging module, you’ll gain an understanding of the principles of how an image is formed using x-rays or sound waves, and be able to critically assess the important design features in such imaging devices for optimum image quality. 

This course equips students with the skills to manage the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injured individuals by offering a unique blend of academic theory, practical workshops and clinical placements in the final year. Students on this course enjoy state-of-the-art facilities with an elite gym and a fully equipped dedicated rehabilitation unit.

Physiotherapy (also known as physical therapy) places full and functional movement at the heart of what it means to be healthy.

It involves treating patients of all ages with a range of illnesses and conditions, including those with back and neck problems, sports injuries, arthritis, or those recovering from strokes and operations. The focus of our treatment is exercise prescription. 

Physiotherapists are healthcare professionals responsible for developing, maintaining and restoring movement and functional ability in adults and children using evidence-based practice. Studying Physiotherapy in UCD will provide you with the skills and qualifications required to practice as a physiotherapist upon graduation. The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy is a four-year degree programme which includes a total of 31 weeks of clinical practice in the last two years of the programme. The first year provides a foundation in Anatomy and Physiology, communication and behaviour, and an Introduction to Physiotherapy Practice. Over the remaining three years you will undertake studies in the various disciplines of physiotherapy including cardiorespiratory care, clinical neurology and musculoskeletal disorders for people across the lifespan. The Physiotherapist Assistant’s role will be to work under the direction and guidance of a Chartered Physiotherapist to assess, treat and support recovering clients.

This one-year Physiotherapy Studies course introduces the core principles of rehabilitation, focusing on the assessment and treatment of mobility issues resulting from injury, illness, or aging. Students develop the practical skills necessary to support HSE healthcare teams in delivering effective therapy programs and restoring client movement. Highlighting the program's hands-on approach, practical sessions are held at premier facilities, including the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and the National Gymnastics Training Centre.

On this course, you will develop foundational skills and knowledge in subjects related to physiotherapy, both theoretical and practical. This will prepare you for progression to Higher Level study.

This course gives students the knowledge, experience, and teaching skills required to launch their careers as professional, confident Pilates instructors.  Over the course of the academic year, students have the time and support to develop their own Pilates practice, while also gaining essential Pilates teaching experience in a supervised setting. Students learn to design classes and develop expertise in offering individual modifications.

This unique course combines Pilates Teacher Training with sports massage therapies, body conditioning and exercise, which is ideal for anyone seeking a holistic and structured approach to teaching Pilates.
