Environmental Science and Engineering is a new integrated undergraduate with postgraduate degree course that aims to train the next generation of graduates who have the competencies, knowledge and experience necessary to design and deploy solutions that protect and improve our environment and human wellbeing, and that work with rather than against the natural world to foster biodiversity, climate action and sustainable use of Earth’s finite resources.

This honours degree offers a unique combination of scientific and instrumentation based modules to train graduates in the skills required to become environmental monitoring specialists, specifically in the areas of air and water quality analysis.

Whether out on field trips or doing nanoscale environmental analysis in the lab, you’ll gain the analytical and practical skills to understand, protect and improve our environment. Not only that, but you’ll get to contribute in a practical way to reducing carbon on- and off-campus in our new module, Towards Zero Carbon.

Over the four years, you’ll gain a strong scientific core in biology, chemistry, physics and maths. This is vital to working as an environmental scientist, but also gives you flexibility when it comes to your career choice. In your third year, you’ll do a nine-month work placement and you also have the chance to study abroad. And of course, throughout the course, you’ll be able to contribute practically to reducing carbon reliance.

The overall aim of the programme is to equip you with degree-level competence in the disciplines of Equine Science and a choice of professional studies in either Equitation* (the art or practice of horse riding or horsemanship) or Equine Business Management. Graduates of the programme contribute to the continued development of the horse industry through the application of their knowledge, skills and research in Science, Equitation and Business Management.

The Certificate and Diploma courses are suitable if you want to achieve academic qualifications before starting work in an area of horse-based or related industries. The programmes offer a broad base of learning in equine science, equitation and equine related business topics. This three stranded approach provides a strong platform for building a flexible career. In most semesters you will have a choice of module that allows you to align your studies with your personal interests and ambitions. Students who progress to the Diploma in Science (Equine Science) can choose to follow either a business or equitation specialist route. 

European Studies in the University of Limerick is a broad and integrated world-class programme. This course will teach students the fundamentals of creating and managing an event, spanning from the beginning of planning to post-event analysis. Students will be involved in planning and organising events including working on client briefs, carrying out risk assessments, designing presentations and producing reports.

Students will study and learn to deal with complex and challenging topics including revenue management, public relations, marketing, technical and production operations.

In this four-year course, you’ll acquire practical and theoretical skills in all aspects of event management. You’ll become knowledgeable in areas such as event planning and design, marketing, sponsorship, staging and health and safety. This course qualifies you as a Fitness Professional with a strong portfolio of specialisms which include  Advanced Personal Training and Strength & Conditioning for Athletes and Teams. This four year honours degree in Exercise & Health Fitness Management provides you with a broad introduction to a career in the fitness industry. In the first year, you will study a curriculum to qualify as a Fitness Instructor/Gym Instructor.

Exercise Sciences (Common Entry) is an exciting new four year degree path for those wishing to pursue a programme of study in the area of exercise science but who also wish to graduate in a specialist field. It is for students interested in Exercise Science as a broad career, but who are unsure about their specific areas of interest or career plan.

Successful completion of the first two years of the common entry programme in Exercise Science is required in order to progress onto one of the specialist Level 8 exit award pathways.

Fashion Retailing is a global, growth industry that provides challenging and rewarding career opportunities. Retail management is the achievement of company goals through effective and efficient planning, leadership, organisation and control of internal resources.

The BA (Hons) in Fashion Design gives students a comprehensive and rigorous preparation for careers in fashion design. The programme emphasises project-based learning, requiring learners to experiment and innovate in order to create imaginative design solutions. Assignments include industry-based projects to ensure graduates will have the skills to take up employment, either for a company or as independent designers.

Our BA in Fashion Design is a three-year level 7 degree course available on a full-time basis. The course will immerse you in the fashion industry and prepare you for any role that requires a creative flair and business knowledge.

This programme is for creative, innovative, and business-minded students. They may have a flair for fashion or want to bring innovation and business acumen to the fashion industry. Or they may want to develop fashion products and use photography and film to promote a business idea online. Students on this programme will explore their creative strengths. Each year, students will complete a fashion design project, which is very much concept-driven.

Why do films affect us the way they do? Why did the introduction of sound change film forever? What do we mean by ‘independent cinema? What is a digital story world? These and many more are the questions that Film Studies asks students to consider in small-group lectures and seminars.

In addition, over the course of your degree you’ll be encouraged to respond creatively to critical issues via projects, presentations, short films and video essays, as well as to develop your screenwriting skills to see if you have a fresh vision to share with the world around you.
