Our course is broadly based and covers the Core Civil Engineering disciplines of Highways, Structures, Geotechnics, Water and Environmental. The programme is designed in partnership with industry and uniquely merges civil engineering with management skills. It provides graduates with the knowledge, skills and techniques used in civil engineering management. The programme is a four year sandwich: two years full-time study, one year of practical work experience (or equivalent) and a final year of full-time study.

Graduates will be able to manage the construction and maintenance of infrastructural developments. Such work would include bridges, marine works, tunnels, motorways, railways, airfields and environmental projects including water and waste water systems, pipelines, waste management and residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

History of Art and Architecture

History of Art and Architecture is about the study of images, objects and buildings. It is unique in developing high levels of visual literacy applicable to a range of career pathways. It explores why works of art look the way they do and seeks to discover what they say about the societies that created them. It develops skills in visual analysis, critical assessment, and communication.

The study of Classical Languages is concerned with the language, literature and thought of either Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome. You will choose to study either Greek or Latin. Through the reading of literature in the original language and the examination of key aspects of ancient history, you will develop a thorough knowledge of the classical world and a critical approach to textual and material culture.

Students combine this subject with their choice of French or German.

Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology (CLAHA) is an integrated degree programme that allows you to study the history, literature, art, archaeology, culture and thought of the ancient world in conjunction with one or both of the ancient languages.

You will study Classics, Art History and Archaeology in great detail. If you are interested in understanding the visual, material and textual remains of societies from prehistory to the present, this unique interdisciplinary course is for you. You will learn to evaluate and interpret evidence and to present your ideas, while developing a greater understanding of the ancient world and of how the past has shaped the present.
