This four-year course prepares you for a career in professional accountancy and finance and can lead to a contact with an accounting practice. You don’t need to have studied any Leaving Certificate Accounting, Business or Economics subjects. We start at an introductory level, which will prepare you for the more complex concepts that you meet at a later stage in the course.

This three year course aims to provide a level of knowledge and skills in Accounting and Finance that prepares students for middle level responsibility in an Accounting environment. Students who gain the Bachelor Degree Award may exit into the world of employment with this solid qualification.

This degree programme provides an in-depth knowledge of the area of accounting and finance as well as the practical skills, both of which are essential in the rapidly changing and highly competitive world of business. Exemptions from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) may apply.

Upon graduation, you have the opportunity to gain the maximum amount of exemptions available for an undergraduate degree from these professional bodies.

Our two-year Higher Certificate (Level 6) programme in Accounting & Finance will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a successful career at Accounting Technician level. This programme is both a qualification in its own right and a stepping stone to the Level 8 (Honours) Degree programme in Accounting & Finance.

This programme is structured to address many of the competence requirements of professional Accountancy bodies and to give students a range of learning experiences tailored to careers in Accounting and Finance. The BSc Hons Accounting and Law is a four-year programme with an equal weighting of accounting and law based modules covered each year. It also has an option of an intercalary/placement year after Year 3.

The overall aim of the degree is to:

• develop students’ core knowledge and understanding of the principles, issues and applications of accounting and law and of the broader financial and economic environment;
• enable the development of intellectual skills including critical, analytical and problem-solving skills relevant to law, business finance and investment decision-making;
• highlight the relevance of legal knowledge to the needs of the community whether at a local, regional, national, European or international level;
• support the development of a range of subject-specific and generic transferable skills;
• develop students' ability to analyse, interpret and communicate legal and financial information;
• develop students' interpersonal, research, computing and communication skills.

Studying business at the Magee campus provides students with extensive choice. In this case Accounting may be taken as an equal main subject, with Marketing as the other equal main subject.

The flexible structure of this programme affords students the opportunity of choosing a pathway to suit their own personal interests and career aspirations. Graduates will have generic skills in particular management functions and specific skills in accounting and marketing. The accounting/marketing main/main combination is particularly suited for graduates wishing to go on to develop a career in business where these named disciplines are desirable.

The programme equips graduates for a management career in industry, commerce or the public sector. It also provides the entrepreneurial and innovation skills necessary for the creation of new business ventures and to stimulate the competitive impetus for managing and developing existing businesses. The accounting/marketing main/main subjects help develop supporting expertise of particular interest to the student.

 This is a two year course leading to the qualification of a Professional Accounting Technician. An Accounting Technicians Ireland qualification is a job requirement for many employers. An Accounting Technicians qualification will lead to a career as an Assistant Accountant, Credit Controller, Accounts Supervisor and Payroll Administrator.

Apprentices graduate with an industry-recognised Level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate in Accounting, and tuition is funded by the state agency SOLAS. Graduating enables you to join the professional Member network (ATI) and use of the designatory letters MIATI.
