The Centre for Deaf Studies in Trinity affords students the opportunity to develop insights into, and genuine appreciation for the culture, contributions, and contemporary issues related to Deaf people in Ireland and worldwide. 

This two-year course is based in the Dublin Dental University Hospital at Trinity. It has academic, project-based and clinical components which are carried out in the Dublin Dental University Hospital, Health Services Executive and general hospital settings. Emphasis is on health promotion projects, evidence-based learning, and clinical practice. You will be integrated with undergraduate dental science students and dental nursing students for some elements of the programme.

Dental hygienists form an important complementary branch of the dental profession. Working under the supervision of a dentist, the dental hygienist carries out procedures such as:

• scaling teeth
• taking and recording radiographs
• local infiltration and inferior block anaesthesia
• application of fissure sealants
• application of desensitising agents
• dietary advice.

This course gives you the skills and practical competence needed to work in a dental surgery. You will learn about the day-to-day running of a dental practice and acquire the qualifications for entry to the Dental Council Voluntary Register of Dental Nurses.

In the second year of the programme, the students will have the opportunity to work with various dental clinicians in a wide variety of disciplines. Clinical experiences will be gained within the DDUH environment, external institutions and private practices.

The UCC Diploma in Dental Nursing was designed to meet the needs of the general dental community and has standardised dental nurse training in Ireland.

This course will give you the clinical competence to work as a dental nurse. Students with an interest in teamwork and communication will be supported to assist within a dental team. The dental nursing student will participate in dental placement enabling students to communicate, demonstrate clinical skills, administration duties and problem solve within their scope of practice under the supervision of a registered dentist.

A dental nurse works as part of a dental team in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings. In Ireland Dental Nurses are mainly employed in General Dental Surgeries, Dental Hospitals, Health Service Executive Dental Clinics or Specialist Surgeries.

This is a professional oriented course designed to provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, competences and attitudes to be a Dental Nurse and to facilitate progression within education, as part of further study.

The programme is both innovative and learner centred with both work-based and blended learning elements to enhance the educational experience, by working in conjunction with Dental practices and through using technology to enhance learning.

Dental Science is the study of the oral cavity and the diseases associated with oral tissues. This five-year programme is designed to ensure that graduates can safely and effectively deliver the full range of primary dental care, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oral and dental diseases.

The main aim of the course is to educate and train students to become part of the dental team for the planning, designing and fabrication of intra-oral appliances. Dental Technology is divided into four main areas – fixed prosthodontics, complete denture technology, removable denture technology and orthodontic technology.

Dentistry provides a rewarding career in the provision of oral health care and is satisfying not only in terms of performing high-standard clinical procedures but also in terms of social interaction. The dentist also fulfills an important function in educating patients regarding their oral care.

Early patient contact commencing in Year 1 is one of the most important characteristics of this innovative degree programme. These early patient encounters play an important role in developing students' clinical communication and teamworking skills, and understanding the ethos of patient-centred care. Additionally, Years 1 and 2 of the programme lay down the scientific and technical foundations upon which the later, more clinically-intensive years of the course are built. By the end of the second year of study, students will have been introduced to the evidence-based core clinical and technical skills required of modern dentistry and will have developed competence in many aspects of dental care.

On the course you learn the skills of being a designer, sketching, model making/prototyping, creative problem solving, visual communication and working as part of a team. You will be using programmes like Solidworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and more. 

The aim of this 1 year full-time programme is to provide learners with a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of the modern fashion trade. There is a strong focus throughout the course on applying knowledge and skills practically to produce real results in both textile and garment construction including aspects of sustainable fashion. Work placement gives our learners an opportunity to enhance their career prospects within the Fashion Industry.

A Fashion portfolio which demonstrates the learner’s ability to deliver creative and original responses is prepared including digital illustration and image manipulator with Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator.

Visual Communication is often referred to as graphic design and it embraces symbols, type and images that appear in the commercial public domain.

Graphic designers work across a wide variety of print and screen disciplines and the end result is normally a creative output in 2D format. With the arrival of digital and mobile technology, visual communication now includes visual media, information design and screen-based design. 

Bachelor of Arts in Design is a common entry programme with degree award options: Animation, Graphic Design and Illustration, Film and Media Promotion, or Fashion Design with Promotion. It is designed to provide students interested in Art & Design with an opportunity to study various subject areas before choosing a specialised field to pursue the career of their dreams.

The BA in Design (Common Entry) course is the first year of a three year (Level 7) course. Following exploration of design disciplines in the first semester, you will begin to focus on your preferred specialist area in the second semester. In Year 2 you will then transfer on to one of the following level 7/8 degree courses; BA in Product Design, BA in Interior Design, BA in Graphic Design and Illustration, BA in Textile and Fashion Design

Other topics on the programme include Photography, Digital Media, Design History & Theory, Creative Problem Solving, Business & Entrepreneurial skills and an Ethical and Sustainable Design ethos.

The work of the Design – Visual Communication graduate is all about breathing life into images, text and concepts, turning them on their head and communicating them in a fresh way to a wide audience.

This four-year course will suit you if you wish to become a graphic designer, illustrator, typographer or digital media designer.
