The overall aim of the two-stage programme is to enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and competence to work as autonomous practitioners, subject to practice supervision, promoting and supporting the holistic needs of children from 0 to six years, and/or to take responsibility for a room or area in an ELC setting. This award also provides the learner with the opportunity to transfer and progress into further and higher education and training.

The current qualification requirement for room leaders is Level 6 (DCEDIY, register of recognised Early Years qualifications.) Qualifications for different roles in ELC may be subject to change in line with evolving national policy.

This Advanced Certificate course supports learners gain knowledge and practical skills to be successful in a career in a variety of Early Years settings. Additionally, this programme includes modules for Special Needs Assisting.

The course provides opportunities to work as a Special Needs Assistant or personal carer in a variety of Early Childhood Care and Education settings including: Full Day Care, Pre-School, Primary and Secondary schools.

This dedicated Soccer programme enables students to develop and perfect their soccer performance skills whilst also gaining a full QQI qualification in Sport, Recreation and Exercise. FAI Coaching qualifications up to Youth cert are included in this award. This programme allows students to progress to Institutes of Technology nationwide.

The BA (Hons) English and Psychology degree at ATU Sligo enables students to think critically and acquire a deep understanding of the human condition and human behaviour through the study of English and Psychology. The transferable skills, knowledge, and understanding acquired on the programme are highly relevant and sought after by a wide variety of industry employers and postgraduate educational programmes.

This course is specifically designed to provide you with the fundamental knowledge and skills required for success in broad based Arts/Social Science programmes. In essence you will get a real taste for what’s required at third level before committing to a degree programme. On completion you can use this QQI Level 5 major award to apply through the Higher Links Scheme for a place in many of the different degree programmes in these area.

AU391 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Health and Social Care has been formally approved by CORU, Ireland’s multi-profession health regulator. The course based in ATU Donegal is the third course at ATU to be approved by CORU in recent years and marks its commitment to providing high-quality education in the field of Health and Social Care Practice.

This course has been designed to enable you to discover all the aspects of health issues, and learn how to understand, research and act to improve the health of populations. 

During the course, you’ll encounter many different ways of thinking about and acting on health issues, including biological, social, political, ethical and psychological perspectives. You’ll not only learn about different potential career paths, but you’ll also get to focus many projects and other programme activities on your own health interests.

As a Health and Society student, you’ll participate in a voluntary community project in your first year, then go on to design and implement a health equity campaign in second year. In your final year, you’ll complete a health research project and write your final dissertation.

Once you’ve completed the programme, you could go on to work in a state or voluntary health or social agency, or go to work in overseas development. Many of our graduates apply to go directly into further study, such as a postgraduate programme in occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, health promotion, social research and a wide range of other areas.
