The Criminology including Legal Studies course provides students with a broad introduction to the criminal justice system, exploring the causes and types of crime, as well as theories of crime. This full-time one-year programme offers an introduction to forensic science and its application to criminal law. Students will gain practical skills in the science laboratory as well as gaining knowledge of the criminal law system in Ireland. Progression is possible into chemistry and forensic related courses and these, in turn, link to professions in An Garda Síochána, the Defence Forces and Forensic Science Labs.

This course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills to analyse and understand scientific evidence in a laboratory setting. Forensic evidence is used to enhance investigative work which may be required by the judicial system.
