To work with someone with a disability is to become more human
Since its foundation in 1955, St. Michael’s House has grown to become one of Ireland’s largest providers of community-based services for people with an intellectual disability and their families. A voluntary body, St. Michael’s House offers services to over 1,712 children and adults through 170 centres across Dublin City and County. Services offered include; clinical supports, early intervention, education, vocational training, employment, residential, respite, specialist Alzheimer’s supports as well as social and recreational services.
Tomás Flanagan is an Occupational Therapist working for St Michael's House. Following his Leaving Certificate, he studied Occupational Therapy in Trinity College Dublin where he found the educational placements of particular relevance. Following graduation he got an opportunity to work with children with Autism for a year which was very challenging but offered a great learning experience.
