Recruitment processes vary and will differ across roles.
Each position will normally have an application form, job specification and additional campaign information. The process usually begins with completing an application form. Most application forms are competency based. For each post there are criteria that will determine if applicants are eligible. These are outlined on the Job Specification for each post.
A selection board of senior managers will assess your application form against the eligibility criteria to see how your individual experience and skills match the needs of the post. There may be a number of stages of selection and short-listing or a ranking exercise may take place.
Any applicant who does not meet the eligibility criteria/is not shortlisted will be informed of that decision and the reason why.
Any candidate invited to interview will be given more details regarding the interview or other additional assessment stages at a later date. Competency-based interviews focus on the key competencies identified for a particular role. A competency is the skill, knowledge or experience that has been identified as necessary to ensure effective performance in a particular job or role. These have been carefully considered and decided on before the interview takes place and are the competencies listed in the Job Specification.
Candidates who are successful at interview will be placed on a panel in order of merit.
Posts are offered to the candidate with the highest order of merit.
Interviews form a part of the selection process. The HSE must be satisfied that it has a full and comprehensive suite of references/clearances which ensuresstaff being appointed are safe and competent meeting the eligibility criteria for the post.
