A work rider is responsible for riding Racehorses during workouts particularly in their fast work; they must be accomplished riders and be able to follow instructions to the letter. Riders must be in top physical shape and they must maintain appropriate riding weights—generally under 12 stone for Jump Racing and under 10 stone for Flat.

Works in a kitchen and performs duties such as cleaning, washing up and basic food preparation.

Enlists in the Defence Forces Naval Service to train as a Marine Engineering Officer.

Oversees the provision of prepared food at events, from weddings to huge business conferences.

Provide basic horticultural and gardening advice to retail customers.

Cares for animals in a pet shop, and advises customers on how to care for the animals which they buy.

Examines and treats all kinds of sick and injured animals and advises on animal health and welfare.

The role of the racehorse trainer is to train thoroughbred horses to win races. However, the role encompasses a host of other activities which include the welfare and safety of both of both staff and horses, liaising with various owners and keeping them up to date regarding their horse, the daily routine of the racehorse, and picking suitable races for the horse.

Supervises departmental staff and monitors the implementation of various Government schemes relating to Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
