The stud groom’s role encompasses a variety of positions from handling stallions to foaling-down broodmares or preparing yearlings and is fundamental to the day to day running and operation of any study farm.  A few tasks involved on a near daily basis are mucking out stalls, bringing horses in, educating foals and weanlings, and feeding horses.

Plants and cares for flowers, grass lawns and trees in a garden. Tasks include planting, trimming, mowing, carrying out redesign work and repairing features. May work in a variety of settings, including public parks, private homes or the grounds of bushiness.

Assists with the maintenance of boats/vessels, rigs tow lines, open and closes gates and ramps, and pulls guard chains across entries.

A stallion handler is responsible for the day to day care of elite stallions. Working at a stud you will be a specialist in handling stallions around the yard and during the breeding process.  There is significant responsibility of looking after these highly valued thoroughbreds and seeing the safe practices of covering broodmares during the breeding season.

A pre-trainer is responsible for the conditioning of horses prior to them going into the racing stables of a licensed trainer.  The reason for this is so the horses head to the trainer with a solid foundation of fitness so the trainer is able to focus on the more serious conditioning which prepares them for racing.
