A head person is the supervisor of the stable staff team in a racing yard and responsible for the smooth day to day running of a yard.  The role is responsible for planning and scheduling the daily tasks in the yard ensuring a high standard of work is maintained by the stable staff team and that they are appropriately trained and developed and general care of thoroughbreds.

A grounds person works as part of the racecourse team to ensure that the racing track is kept in premium condition, this involves maintaining a safe racing surface, applying nutrients or pesticides, cutting grass and dealing with issues caused by the weather such as a waterlogged track. On race days they replace divots after each race.

A nominations executive is a specialist marketing type role.  A stud farm which stands stallions will usually have a nominations team, and it is the nomination teams’ job to book coverings of mares by the stallion at that stud.  The nominations team are experts in the pedigrees of thoroughbreds and work to achieve the best mating between a mare and stallion.

Enlists in the Defence Forces Naval Service to train as a Marine Engineering Officer.

Assists in the smooth running of the mart. Can include a wide variety of tasks from animal care to animal sales activities. Involves working with animals and farmers.

The role of the racehorse trainer is to train thoroughbred horses to win races. However, the role encompasses a host of other activities which include the welfare and safety of both of both staff and horses, liaising with various owners and keeping them up to date regarding their horse, the daily routine of the racehorse, and picking suitable races for the horse.
