The sheer range of roles available in healthcare provides many opportunities to work in this challenging and fulfilling sector. From initial visit, to diagnosis, treatment and continuing care there are many different professions at each stage of a patient’s journey. Doctors, dentists and nurses spring to mind. Other health and social care professions include dieticians, pharmacists, occupational therapists, radiographers and social workers to name just a few. Management, ICT, maintenance, admin and support roles are also integral to the health service such as porters, emergency call takers and medical records clerks. As well as skills specific to each role, a career in healthcare requires empathy, a positive attitude, good communication skills and resilience to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
