Acting

As a nation of storytellers, Ireland’s Film and TV sector has received global acclaim and won many prestigious international awards. Accomplished Irish actors such as Daniel Day Lewis, Brendan Gleeson, Cillian Murphy, Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal to name but a few, have achieved great success in Hollywood.

However, even professional actors may have short term contracts and work at other jobs in between acting and attending auditions. Resilience to cope with this uncertainty, rejection at auditions and the ability to move forward are key skills in this industry.

Acting is a vocation which requires creativity, passion, excellent concentration and memory skills. The ability to follow the director’s instructions, use speech, movement and expression to bring the character to life is integral to the profession. If you can cope with the unpredictability of the profession, you can have a very interesting and rewarding career playing different characters in a wide variety of working environments, with the potential for critical acclaim and high earnings.
