What is a Traineeship?
Traineeships are shorter programmes of structured training that combine learning with practical workplace experience. The programmes, which can last from between 6 months to 20 months, give participants the opportunity to develop cutting edge skills by providing a minimum of 30% of on-the-job experience.
The courses are designed to help make participants become more skilled and more employable, thereby enhancing their career options in areas of identified industry skills need. Traineeships are developed and delivered by Education and Training Boards (ETBs) working in partnership with representatives from over 1,500 participant companies across a wide range of different industries.

There are currently 75 different Traineeship programmes that span 16 different employment sectors.
The programmes are available around the country from Level 4 to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). New traineeships are developed on an ongoing basis across a range of industries and sectors in response to identified skill needs.
