Calling Transition Year Students!

Design Your Future is a free week-long programme for TY students delivered by Academy of the Near Future — a collaboration between CONNECT, the Research Ireland Centre for Future Networks at Trinity College Dublin, and local authorities including Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council.

This year we are so excited to deliver our programme in collaboration with Google, in ‘The Factory’ community and arts and culture space, Boland Mills, Google Docks.

Through hands-on workshops and creative activities, you’ll explore how technology and innovation can help tackle challenges in towns, cities and communities.

Highlights from the week include:

  • Taking part in interactive art, design, communication and science workshops where you’ll problem-solve in teams.
  • Build creative confidence to imagine alternative futures
  • Experiment with citizen science to explore climate action.
  • Learning how technology is being used to address real challenges with the Smart Dublin team.
  • Meeting STEM, design and innovation experts who will help bring your ideas to life.

This unique programme is a fantastic way to build confidence, get creative, develop new skills and, most importantly, have fun!

Who Can Apply?

The Transition Year Week is open to all 15–17-year-old students based in Dublin. This programme will be in the Docklands area, we are particularly encouraging local students to apply, but we welcome all students who have the capacity to get to Google during the week. You don’t need to be familiar with coding or technology — just curious, creative and enthusiastic about shaping better futures for your community.

How to Apply

Applications are open now and close at 10 pm on Friday, 31st October. There are 20 places in total. To apply, you’ll answer a few short questions about yourself, describe a challenge in your area, and suggest how technology might help solve it.

Places will be assigned based on enthusiasm and creativity. Successful participants will receive confirmation emails the week after applications close.
