TY Law Programme
The Law Library

Company/Organisation Profile

The Bar of Ireland is the representative body for the barristers' profession in Ireland and is governed by the Constitution of the Bar of Ireland. Its role is:

  • to consider, report upon and make representations as it considers necessary in all matters affecting the profession;
  • to play a key role in the conduct and arrangement of the business of the profession;
  • to control and regulate the professional conduct of the members of the Bar; and,
  • to secure and protect the interests of the profession.

The business of the Council is conducted by seven permanent committees and such other committees as the Council may, from time to time, establish.

The Law Library has facilities located at the Four Courts in Dublin, the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin and adjacent to the courthouse in Cork and is a bustling hive of activity from which barristers work.

Placement Details

The Look into Law TY Programme has been reimagined as a blended offering with one week online and onsite for 100 students who are interested in learning about life as a barrister. The 2025 dates will be announced over the coming months.

The online days consist of live Zoom sessions with barristers and include breakout rooms and quizzes. The online days will take place Monday and Tuesday. Then the programme moves to in person and the onsite days consist of job shadowing and tours on Wednesday and Thursday.

100 schools will be chosen by a lottery with at least 20% of places allocated to DEIS schools. Schools will be notified by a specified date in December.
