Craft Gallery & Shop
Irish Fibre Crafters

Company/Organisation Profile

My business is a working weaving and spinning studio and craft gallery located in the rural village of Ardrahan, County Galway.  In my studio, there are crafters spinning, weaving, or felting on a daily basis.  We cater to those interested in craft and wanting to see traditional crafts being done.  The craft gallery and shop sells products created from Irish bred sheep wool and alpaca fibre.  There are about 12 local craftspeople represented in the shop.  We also have an online shop and products are shipped all over the world.  Anyone working here would get experience in retail sales, customer service, and hands on crafting with fibre.

Placement Details

This placement will involve greeting customers and assisting them as needed with sales. As orders come in from the online shop, those orders will be packaged and addressed for shipment.  You will be introduced to the craftspeople who sell in the shop and have the opportunity to attend and/or assist with their various workshops and classes. Some internet research may be required at times.

There is hand spinning, hand weaving, and dyeing equipment in the studio which will be available for you to observe and use. As the business owner and operator, I would be mentoring you for the majority of the time.  However, if needed, other craftspeople could mentor also.

The training you receive at Irish Fibre Crafters could include learning various fibre crafts, learning retail selling skills, assisting in craft workshops and classes and developing customer service skills.
