Transition Year Work Experience
1. Introduction
This policy sets out the process and procedure for Transition Year (TY) students undertaking a work experience placement at Zatino Travel. The intention of the placement is to introduce the student to a quality, 'real world' work experience within a supervised framework. It requires a coordinated approach from the school and Zatino Travel to ensure the student meets their learning objectives.
2. Benefits of Work Experience
There are benefits for both Zatino Travel and the TY student. Students on placement will learn about:
● The travel and tourism industry and specific roles within Zatino Travel.
● Workplace dynamics, customer service excellence, and the impact of digital technology on travel.
● Developing a sense of responsibility and appropriate work attitude.
3. Programme Details: February Intake
To ensure a meaningful experience without over-burdening our team, we have limited availability.
● Capacity: We will facilitate 2 TY students for this placement block.
● Placement Dates: Monday, 9th February to Friday, 13th February.
● Location: Zatino Travel Dublin Office.
4. Placement Hours
● Start Time: 10:00 AM.
● Finish Time: 4:00 PM (Monday – Thursday), 1:00 PM (Friday).
● Lunch: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM.
Note: Students are not supervised during the lunch hour and may leave the premises during this break.
5. ICT Equipment and Workstations
● Company Equipment: Zatino Travel will provide a designated workspace and access to a desktop computer.
● Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): While company equipment is available, students are encouraged to bring their own laptops. This facilitates smoother work on personal research projects and working tasks.
● Usage Policy: Students using personal or company devices must adhere to Zatino Travel's internet usage and data protection policies.
6. Student Safety and Wellbeing Student safety is paramount.
● Insurance: An indemnity letter must be provided by the school to Zatino Travel to ensure the student is properly insured during their placement.
● Supervision: Students will be assigned a supervisor.
● Documentation: We require school TY Coordinator and Parent/Guardian contact details to be submitted prior to the start date.
7. Sample Work Experience Week Schedule
The nature of the work will be age-appropriate and include shadowing, research, and administrative work.
● Monday: Meet and greet, health & safety briefing, overview of the Travel Industry, and introduction to office systems.
● Tuesday: Shadowing the team; learning how to build client itineraries.
● Wednesday: Marketing focus; researching travel trends and drafting social media content.
● Thursday: Administrative duties and assisting with documentation filing.
● Friday: Final review, exit interview with management to discuss what they learned, and completion of school evaluation forms.
