Company/Organisation Profile
Barretstown is a specially designed camp that provides Therapeutic Recreation programmes for children with serious illnesses, and their families. It was founded by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman in 1994 and modelled on his renowned Hole in the Wall Camp in Connecticut, USA.
Excellent, unobtrusive medical supervision helps children with cancer and other serious illnesses forget illness, learn to have fun and rebuild confidence and self-esteem, in the beautiful foothills of the Wicklow Mountains.
Placement Details
Barretstown’s new TY Programme is a Residential Experience on our beautiful 500-acre Barretstown Estate. We will be hosting a 4-day/3 night (Mon-Thurs) programme which will run weekly from February through to April and again from October through to November.
We can cater for groups of 20-40 students, including a supervising teacher for each group of 10 students. Each 4-day programme is restricted to one school only. Students will learn about Barretstown’s programmes and will actively participate in preparing the site for the next weekends camp and gain an insight into all areas of our operation, from programme delivery to facilities and fundraising.
While here, students have access to the expertise of our amazing Barretstown Camp team and campus, including our new residential facilities, teaching spaces, outdoor activities, gardens, and media studio space. We offer full board, a modern dining hall, a newly built accommodation block and a wealth of knowledgeable and experienced staff.
Fundraising
Each student will be expected to fundraise a minimum fee of €750 to cover the costs of the week and provide Barretstown with much needed funds. Our professional fundraising team will be on hand to advise and support you in this regard, and there will be a prize for the student who raises the most.
