Standing proudly on the banks of the Ilen river, in Skibbereen, The West Cork Hotel offers generous hospitality with a familiar, easy charm that makes guests feel right at home. This traditional boutique hotel has played host to many notable guests and countless special occasions. We specialise in catering for all family events and our longevity within the industry is a testimony to the service we provide and the ongoing support of the local community.

Low season the hotel has 50 employees who undertake a variety of tasks, we provide both accommodation and food & beverage this offering is available from 7.30am to 9pm.

A transition year student would be offered a chance to experience at least two different departments, kitchen, food and beverage or housekeeping.  We provide ongoing in house training and can also provide part time work for candidates that are interested in pursuing a career in the industry.

Placement Details

A general attendant is available to undertake a variety of tasks within the hotel, training will be provided.

Breakfast - they may be required to serve the buffet, prepare tea & toast orders, serve hot breakfast and they will receive training on the till ordering system & preparing the bills. Guest may order food from their rooms, the trays will need to be prepped and ready for delivery at the required time.

Housekeeping - the attendant will work as part of a team, the team ensures that each room is thoroughly cleaned and presentable to in coming guests.

Kitchen - the attendant will work under the direction of Head Chef, either in wash up or on vegetable prep.

With all students management strive to give all candidates experience in each of the three departments.
