About the Mespil Hotel

The Mespil Hotel is a 4* hotel in Dublin City Centre offering 260 bright and spacious bedrooms, located overlooking the banks of the Grand Canal and in within walking distance to St. Stephen's Green, Grafton Street, Merrion Square, Ballsbridge & Herbert Park. Our Lock Four Restaurant is the perfect place to relax for breakfast, lunch or dinner, while The Lounge is the ideal retreat to enjoy a morning coffee, refreshing drink or tasty snack after a busy day in the city. Relaxation and comfort is provided in all rooms. Our rooms have been carefully designed introducing soft lighting, natural wood and neutral tones to promote a soothing and restful atmosphere. Our Business Centre is open daily for residents, and two dedicated meeting rooms are suitable for small boardroom meetings or seminars. The Fitness Suite offers residents a mixture of cardio and resistance equipment, and a balance and stretching area for the guest wellness. 

We employ up to 115 team members which allows us to operate smoothly during the peak season. Our team work in the various departments throughout the hotel, for example Front Desk, Bar & Restaurant, Accommodation and Kitchen. We are a busy corporate hotel achieving annual occupancy of 86% pre covid.

We work with Transition Year students each year for their one week placements where they are introduced to the operations of the Bar, Restaurant and Accommodation departments. It is such a vibrant industry to work in with  wonderful long term careers opportunities.

Placement Details

We work each year with students who are completing Transition Year and are looking for a work placement opportunity and an insight into the hospitality business.

Students would join the team in our Bar , Restaurant & Accommodation departments to be introduced to working life in a hotel and see an overview of what is involved in the day to day operation.

Each student will be introduced to their departments and the Supervisor within that Department , a buddy system will operate where the student works alongside one of our team members how will guide them and train on the daily tasks/skills involved within the area they are working.

For example, breakfast service, tea/coffee service, meeting & greeting the guest, bed making and so on. We strive to give students a memorable and fun introduction to our industry and can reassure each student that they will be well looked after and will not be expected to carry out tasks they are not familiar with.

At the end of the week placement we will provide the student with a letter confirming they have worked with and this will be issued by our HR Department. We also look after each student with a monetary contribution at the end of the placement. 

Note you will need to be 16 years or over to work in the bar area.
