Belturbet Heritage Railway CLG is offering both guided and self guided tours. We are undertaking additional restoration and expansion of facilities, developing and participating in community activities and engaging with local schools. We are also furthering  our cooperation with Co. Cavan Museum and Geopark and developing a Greenway of ca.50km in conjunction with Cavan and Leitrim councils including walking and cycle tracks.

Our experienced tour guides will give a tour guiding demonstration and emphasize the importance of volunteering and knowledge of local history as a foundation for building identity and relationship with the place of residence.

Our group is formed from 15 volunteers, our museum is open on a regular basis Fri-Sun 12-5pm (we offer work experience also outside of the opening hours).

Railway Museum Complex is located in Belturbet Town, a short walking distance from the town canter.

Placement Details

The work experience we offer covers the basics of itinerant tourism, commitment to customer service, an explanation of the sightseeing plan for guided tours, and a brief introduction to the history of the historic complex. An additional activity will be handling simple multimedia (starting the sound system, operating the projector, etc.), organizing museum collections and minor office work.

Students will be supervised by designated personnel, who will be demonstrating and overseeing their work in various activities around Museum Complex.

The skills we would like to pass on to students are mainly interpersonal: servicing visitors and meeting their needs in order to maintain a comprehensive tourist offer.

Students will be asked to do a short presentation for their group and their supervisor at the end of the work experience.

We can offer work placement for both one and a group of students.
