Fowlers Bar and Restaurant is located in the village of Malahide, north county Dublin. We employ over 30 people who work in different areas of the premises. The Bar and Lounge are serviced with skilled Bar-staff and some part-time trained student staff. The floor area is mostly waiters who serve the customer and there is a mix of full and part-time staff here also. The Kitchen area has Porters, a head chef and full-time chef with some part-time cooks also.

We have won Irelands Licence Vintners, Bar of the Year and also Fingal Business Excellence Bar of the Year since being in business in Malahide from 2009.

Placement Details

This work experience will be based in the kitchen area of a busy restaurant.  Some of the tasks you might undertake are below.

Kitchen Chef / Cook will require you to be familiar with all areas of the kitchen including receiving orders, correct storage, and labelling. So, fridges, cold rooms, and all kitchen equipment. You will be dealing with most of the staff as they send in orders and call in to the kitchen to collect their orders. The daily duties from start-up in the morning includes preparing and cooking food to closing down service at the end of shift which includes cleaning your area to storing food away, cooling and correctly labelling.

The Head Chef will be your guide and mentor throughout your time with us but also our other chefs will help you through the working day with any questions you might have. Training for Health and Safety, HACCP and other courses relating to working kitchens will be given to you should you not have had this experience. We would expect that you would be able to do most things in our kitchen that would allow you to be able to produce everything on our menu form beginning (deliveries) to end (finished product) plating up of every item on our menu within a short time from the training and support you will receive.

If you are with us long enough you will have the opportunity to cover all areas of food delivery, storage, preparation, cooking and serving. You will have full HACCP guidelines and certificates from whatever level course you agree to undertake. The skills to prepare and cook fresh food from our menu with the help and guidance from our chefs.
