The Irish Film Institute is Ireland’s national cultural institution for film. It provides audiences throughout Ireland with access to the finest independent, Irish and international cinema; it preserves and promotes Ireland’s moving image heritage through the IFI Irish Film Archive, and provides opportunities for audiences of all ages and backgrounds to learn and critically engage with film.

Placement Details

Work experience at the IFI is suited for anyone with an interest in working in cinema and other arts organisations.

It is an opportunity to go behind-the-scenes of a cinema environment to learn more about film education, programming and marketing.

Please note that IFI Work Experience is office-based. There is no filmmaking involved.

Selected participants will work at the IFI for one week, 4 days in IFI as well as one day working from home. We are unable to accommodate requests for weekly placement.

Participants will work on a laptop in the office. Support and assistance will be provided for all tasks, but familiarity and confidence in using computers is ideal.

If you come to the IFI for work experience, here are some of the things you might do,

  • Assisting IFI Education with our morning screenings for school groups
  • Watching films
  • Writing reviews
  • Designing posters and graphics using Canva
  • General admin tasks
