Atlantic Scuba Adventures is a Diamond certified Scuba Schools International (SSI) Dive centre in based in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht in An Cheathrú Rua (Carraroe) , Co. Galway. We are also blue oceans certified and Europe's first solar-powered dive centre.
Our mission is to create a fun, welcoming underwater community that is also eco-friendly and educational. Our goal is to support YOUR underwater development and empower you to explore all the ocean has to offer!
We are proud to be a family friendly dive centre with experiences for all ages from the eager 6-year-old who wants to snorkel for the first time to the 70-year-old who has retired and wants to learn to dive.
we have a friendly, professional, experienced team of experts, who due to our small business nature, are like family!
While our focus is on the underwater world such as snorkeling and scuba diving we also offer a number land-based experiences including educational ecology programs, seashore safaris, kids camps, biodiversity walking tours, and heritage walking tours.
We have a number of roles in the centre including:
- Scuba instructors
- Dive guides
- Snorkel guides
- Walking tour guides
- Social media/marketing specialists
- Irish-speaking based jobs (walking tours and snorkel tours)
- General dive centre assistants
At Atlantic Scuba Adventures you will get to work outdoors, make friends and learn new skills such as those required by our Activity Instructors. You will learn from and work with our experienced team:
- To carry out daily procedures in a wide variety of activities.
- To give due customer care and meet and greet visitors and groups.
- To support individuals or groups in various activities organised.
- To store and control certain equipment in the activity areas.
- To become familiar with all product offerings at the centre to enable you to help us offer a memorable and fun experience to our customers.
There is also opportunity to gain snorkel instructor qualifications (for those 18+) and to gain other qualifications for those underage including ecology qualifications, snorkeling certifications, and even potential for scuba qualifications!

Placement Details
On arrival you will be assigned your main supervisor who will mentor you for the duration of the experience. You will also have the opportunity to work with the whole team of experienced instructors.
Roles/tasks for the remainder may include:
- Carry out daily opening and closing procedures in activity areas.
- Meet and greet visitors and groups.
- Learn to store, control and use all the equipment in the activity areas. - Learn essential public speaking skills.
- Gain snorkeling experience and certification.
- Gain marine ecology certifications.
- Conduct regular beach cleans.
- Learn to conduct Blue Oceans awareness training.
- Become a snorkel guide assistant.
- Learn safety procedures required for activities.
- Potential for first aid/CPR training.
- Experience managing bookings and retail.
The amount of activities conducted will depend on the duration of your placement with us. However, day 1 will always be set as below regardless of duration.
Here is an example of our standard 5 day program: Day 1 (12:00 - 17:00) – Welcome, Sustainability, Snorkelling • Introduction to Atlantic Scuba Adventures • Snorkel theory • Blue Oceans – Sustainability lecture • 1st snorkel session (student) • Coral Beach – beach clean
Day 2 (9:00 - 17:00) - Customer Relations, CPR, Marine Ecology • Communication with customers’ workshop • 2nd snorkel session (student) • Emergency first response introduction (CPR skills & AED) • Marine ecology session 1
Day 3 (9:00 - 17:00) – Office, Social Media, Content Creation • SSI – certifications/training portal • Rezgo - bookings system • Canva – graphic design and social media management • Educational blog post creation • Marine ecology session 2
Day 4 (9:00 - 17:00) – Maintenance, Project Preparation • Workshop on cleaning schedules of equipment • Compressor operation (and accompanying paperwork) • Diving Cylinders (understanding their servicing) • PowerPoint creation • Working on your presentation • Prepare your blog post – My work experience!
Day 5 (9:00 - 15:00) Life as a Pro • Snorkel brief prep • Snorkel brief delivery • Snorkel session (lead under supervision) • Deliver your presentation • Publish your blog post We are also able to work with students to create longer/shorter programs focusing on certain areas based on their needs.
