4 star family owned and operated hotel located in Ballyconneeely, Connemara. We offer 4 star accommodation, indoor and outdoor spa activities, watersports, restaurant/bar food and beverages. Located in the centre of the Wild Atlantic Way and the Slyne Head Peninsula special area of conservation we are surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty. We have a team of approximately 30-40 employees ranging from full-time to part-time to seasonal and a good mix of age groups and experience levels. Young enthusiastic employees are a very important part of our business as they add a youthful vibrancy to the environment that the guests love. Guests like to engage with young staff members and are often keen to learn about their lives and experience of living and working in Connemara. We would like to continue to integrate young, local people into our team across all departments. Typically spa, food & beverage and reception are the most common positions.

Placement Details

As you might experience in the first year of college, initially you will get an overview of all departments within the hotel. You may then want to specialise in a particular area. In the food & beverage department this may be in the kitchen where we have some fantastic chefs that will both mentor on the kitchen environment and teach culinary skills and technique. This is a great opportunity to work with some very good chefs.

Front of house waitering and bar tending is another excellent opportunity to learn some serious skills. Not only detailed knowledge of all drinks including barista training and beverage quality but also the ability to engage with guests and build confidence. These are skills that last a lifetime and can be taken with you wherever you decide to travel in the future.

The spa is a specialised area of expertise and requires a strong commitment to training and learning. Good therapists are in high demand and once again can travel anywhere in the world once they have the experience. You will have the opportunity to learn about different treatment techniques and products and also the health and wellbeing aspects of this industry.

The reception and administration position is probably the most important position in the hotel. For this position you will learn all aspects of being a receptionist and reservations expert. You will learn to use our reservations system that now also includes AI features. The receptionist is often the face of the hotel and the first person to meet and greet the guests on arrival and then also guide them on their journey . Not to forget the receptionist is the last person to say goodbye to the guest and also collect the money through different payment systems.
